Abstract

In a cigarette lighter having a magnetic ignition device comprising a permanent magnet 1 and a yoke 2, 3 1 , the magnetic circuit through which is closed by a pivotally mounted armature 3 2 when engaged with the yoke 2, and induction windings 5 1 , 5 2 on the yoke to provide a fuel igniting spark when the circuit is broken by moving the armature by a pressstarting mechanism which includes a starting lever 8 and a leaf-spring 7, the mechanism also includes any emergency operating member 15 1 driven directly by the lever to move the armature should the spring 7 fail. Such member is an integral extension 15 of the lever 8 and engages a recess 4 1 in the armature supporting frame 4 when the lever has moved beyond a predetermined position at which the spring normally jerks the armature away from the yoke. Such movement induces a current in the closed circuit of the primary winding 5 1 which is simultaneously opened by a normally closed contact 10 to induce a high voltage in the secondary winding 5 2 connected to electrodes 11 disposed above a fuel burner 12, Fig. 3, whose valve is also opened by the armature movement. The starting lover 8 is tilted about its pivot 9 by depression of a sliding actuator 20 retained on the housing wall by a key (24), Fig. 7, and biased to the starting position by a tension spring (22), Fig. 4.
