Abstract

Novel thiocyanates of formula in which X is -O-, -S- or -NH- R is H, halo, alkyl, nitro, amino or hydroxy and n is 1 or 2 are prepared by reacting a metal salt of a corresponding heterocyclic mercaptan with chloromethyl thiocyanate in an alcoholic solution. An intermediate isolated is sodium 2-mercaptobenzthiazole from the 2-mercaptobenzthiazole and sodium ethoxide.
