Abstract
Compounds of the general Formula (I) C6H5CR(OH)CH2NR1R2 (wherein R is a propargyl group or a group R3CH: CH- or R3C : C-, in which R3 is a hydrogen atom or a C1- 6 alkyl group, and R1 and R2 are the same or different, and are each a hydrogen atom, a C1- 6 alkyl group or an aralkyl group) and their acid addition salts, are prepared by (a) reacting a compound of the Formula (II) C6H5CR(OH)CH2Cl with R1R2NH or (b) converting the compound of Formula (II) to an epoxide of the formula <FORM:1123954/C2/1> and treating the latter with R1R2NH, optionally followed in either case by partial hydrogenation of compounds in which R is R3C:C-, to give compounds in which R is R3CH:CH-, and/or salt formation. The preparation of starting materials of Formula (II) is described. The compounds of the invention are analgesics, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
