Abstract

A tubular false-twist spindle has at least one transverse bar about which the filament passes to arrest the twist, the bar having, in its zone of contact with the filament, a non-circular cross-section which is elongated parallel to the spindle axis and whose periphery has at least one region of pronounced curvature, i.e. so that the filament undergoes a sudden change of direction. The bar may be elliptical with or without a central groove for positioning the filament and with or without sharp edges at the ends of the major axis of the eliptical crosssection. It may be diabolo-shaped, or when two bars are used, they may be semi-eliptical in cross section and arranged at right angles.
