Abstract
A method for measuring the section of the mass of a solid body by X-rays, characterized in that the method of calibrating the area of a cross section of an article, said cross section being taken in a vertical plane to a predetermined axis of said article , and having this one known composition; said method comprises irradiating said plane of said article with a focused X-ray beam and such a beam having a width at least equal to the width of said cross section; detecting the unabsorbed portion of said focused beam to produce a signal representing said unabsorbed portion; and comparing said signal with a second signal representing the unabsorbed portion of an equal focused beam when it radiates a known cross-sectional area of a reference object of a known composition, to produce a third signal representing the differences of the areas of the irradiated cross sections of the aforementioned articles.
