Abstract

The door of a hotel room is equipped with a conventional lock, of the drum-type for example, and with an additional mechanism comprising a mobile part 10 and a fixed part 11 which define two slots 14, 15 for receiving two cards which are punched according to a certain code, with rods mounted in the two parts 10, 11 penetrating into the holes in these cards. A card is inserted from the inside by a hotel staff member and the corresponding card is given to the occupant of the room with the socket for this card. The inside handle enables the door to be opened at all times, but the outside handle 2 is uncoupled from this door and pivots loosely, except when the occupant inserts his card from the outside into the slot 14 provided for it, which causes the part 10 and a ferrule 9, coupling the two portions 5, 6 of the square pin fitted to the handles, to slide. The same lock may be used with different "keys" in the form of pairs of cards which are coded differently.
