Abstract

Methyl p-nitrobenzene sulphonyl carbamate is prepared by reacting p-nitrobenzene sulphonamide in alkaline solution with methyl chloroformate-Example VII. Similarly methyl p-aminobenzene sulphonyl carbamate is prepared from p-acetamido benzene sulphonamide followed by hydrolysis of the acetyl group-Example VIII, and methyl p-methoxy carbonyl aminobenzene sulphonyl carbamate is prepared from sulphanilamide-Example IX.ALSO:A herbicidal composition comprises at least one compound of the formula:- <FORM:1040541/A5-A6/1> wherein X represents a nitro, primary amino or methoxy carbonyl amino group and a solid or liquid diluent. Specified forms are dispersions, solutions, suspensions, emulsifiable concentrates, emulsions, wettable powders, aerosols, granules, oils and dusts. The compositions may contain other herbicides e.g. MCPB, 2, 4-DB, MCPA, 2, 4-D, 2, 4, 5-T, propham, chloropham and Dalapon (sodium).
