Abstract

A sealing mechanism for a reservoir intended for storing liquids, such as petroleum products, which includes a substantially vertical cylindrical side wall and a floating roof arranged in said reservoir and which includes a radially spaced, substantially cylindrical, vertical wall structure inside from said lateral wall of the tank and defining an essentially annular space, located between them; said closing mechanism being located in said annular space and comprising a substantially annular and vertical closing element arranged in said annular space and surrounding said wall structure and located radially outwards from it and arranged in application with said lateral wall of the tank, means carried by said floating roof to support said closing element for vertical movements with said floating ceiling and with respect to said tank side wall and to push said closing element radially outwards to firm sliding application with said side wall of the reservoir and to accommodate limited longitudinal movements of said wall structure with respect to said closure element, the upper peripheral part of said closure element extending upwards, well above the level of the liquid stored in said tank and the lower peripheral part extending of said closing element towards a low, well below the level of the liquid stored in said tank and immersed in it, a substantially annular curtain formed by a non-metallic flexible sheet material that is highly impermeable to the constituents of petroleum products and is arranged in said annular space and supported by said closure element and located along and touching the lower inner surface thereof, the upper peripheral part of said curtain extending upwards well above the level of the liquid stored in said tank and the lower peripheral part extending it of said curtain down well below the level of the liquid stored in and immersed in said reservoir, and a substantially annular diaphragm made of a flexible non-metallic sheet material highly impervious to the constituents of petroleum products and arranged in said space annular, the inner peripheral part of said diaphragm being closed with respect to a pair annular te of said wall structure arranged well above the level of the liquid stored in said reservoir, and the outer peripheral part of said diaphragm being closed with respect to an annular part or of said curtain arranged well above the level of the liquid stored in said reservoir, said diaphragm hanging loosely between its closed inner peripheral part and the closed outer peripheral part thereof, and including inner and outer intermediate sections, the intermediate section of said diaphragm remaining along and in contact with the upper surface of the liquid stored in said reservoir, the inner section of said diaphragm extending upwards from its intermediate section to its closed lower peripheral part and being located along and touching the lower outer surface of said wall structure and the outer section being understood upwards of said diaphragm from, its intermediate section to its part per outer iférica closed and touching and remaining along the upper inner surface of said curtain.
