En la actualidad la gestión de cadáveres de difuntos pasa por dos opciones principales: el entierro o la cremación. El problema es la conservación de las cenizas en la urna, ya que en caso de caída se puede romper la misma y esparcirse las cenizas, e incluso volarse, lo que puede ser una pérdida familiar si se desea conservar las cenizas. Por otro lado a veces los familiares depositan o vierten las cenizas de los difuntos en zonas naturales, como en ríos, lagos, en el mar o en el monte. Además la inclusión de las cenizas supone un menor gasto de resina (o de otros materiales como polvo de alabastro) que tienen un coste. Por otro lado esta forma de conservar las cenizas evita o minimiza el riesgo de vertido de las mismas en espacios naturales. Se insiste en la importancia de la importancia que tiene el procedimiento como medio de reciclaje de un residuo como son las cenizas, ya que recicla toda la cantidad de cenizas entregadas por el crematorio o familiares.
