Sock with shin support system Scope of the invention

The present invention relates to a sports article, more specifically to a sock equipped with a shin guard system using elastic bands.

Background of the invention

Several sports, particularly football, hockey or rugby, require players to wear shin guards to avoid damage caused by violent contact that may occur in the leg, more specifically in the tibia area.

The easiest way to place the shin guard is to introduce it in the sock, which is held in place due to the tension created by the sock mesh. However, this method has the great disadvantage that the shin guard moves quickly out of position. There are several solutions to this problem, such as the use of elastic straps with Velcro® on the shin and rolled around the leg, the use of Velcro® on the sock and on the shin, the arrangement of a bag inside the sock to enclose the shin, or the placement of elastic bands outside the sock.

Examples of the solutions mentioned above can be found in the following documents:

- WO2008124200 which refers to a sports sock with an integral shin guard that has a series of inflatable air chamber elements;

- US3465364 presents the solution of holding the shin guard using Velcro® inside the sock and on the shin;

Advantages of the invention

A sock according to the present invention is described in independent claim 1. Preferred embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.

The main advantage of the invention is to provide a system for keeping the shin guard in place which is completely integrated in the sock, without therefore requiring any other type of fastening at the end.

Endowed with elastic bands padded on the outside of the sock, which surround the leg, the invention has the added benefit of keeping the shin guard in place from the bottom, stopping it with respect to the sliding out of its place. The tapes also act as a support between the sock leg and the sock foot when they are separable from each other, in case the user chooses to use a sock leg that is not integrated with the sock foot.

Another advantage of the sock is that it can be used in its entirety; that is, with both foot and leg, or only the leg itself. This solves the problem of athletes cutting the sock that is part of the sports kit, for reasons of comfort or aesthetics, using another foot of sock, and placing the sock leg that is part of the sports kit on top .

The current solution takes time and is not practical at all, considering that athletes use various methods in order to stop the shin guard so that it does not go out of place and to hide the fact that the sock is formed by two separate parts (the sock leg and the sock foot). Thus, the solution presented by the present invention is much more practical.

Detailed description of the invention

Padded elastic tape refers to a foam-filled material covered with elastic fibers, in order to make the sensation softer and to cushion impacts.

Sock leg refers to a tube made of a fabric that is compatible with the manufacture of a sock, intended to be worn below the knee and above the ankle.

The present invention relates to a sports article, more specifically to a sock equipped with a shin strap restraint system that uses elastic bands, with the shin guard as an objective to protect the leg, and more specifically the area of the tibia, against contacts of the type that can cause injury.
