Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0978095/C1/1> (wherein R is a methyl, ethyl, n- or iso-propyl, n-butyl or alkyl radical) and their preparation by reacting 3-methyl-2-hydroxybenzamide with the appropriate alkyl halide RHal and an alkali metal in an alcoholic medium. A detailed example is given.ALSO:Amides of the formula <FORM:0978095/A5-A6/1> (wherein R is a methyl, ethyl, n- or iso-propyl, n-butyl or allyl radical) are stated to have tranquillizing, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties, and to potentialize the action of barbiturates, e.g. pentobarbital sodium. They may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions for oral or parenteral administration.
