Abstract
A method of producing a metal sulphide and/or selenide coating comprises causing a reaction on the surface of a carrier and in the presence of a binding agent, between a compound of the metal and a sulphur and/or selenium compound at a temperature of at least 100 DEG C. The carrier (e.g. glass plate) may be coated by applying (e.g. dipping or spraying) a solution comprising a metallic compound, a sulphur and/or selenium compound and a binder, or applying a solution comprising a metallic compound and a binder and exposing to an atmosphere of hydrogen sulphide and/or selenide gas or contacting with a solution of hydrogen sulphide and/or selenide or an organic sulphur and/or selenium compound. Specified metal compounds are cadmium and cobalt acetate, manganous chloride, antimony oxide and arsenic oxide. Sulphur compounds specified are thiourea, thioacetamide, thioacetic acid, dithiooxamide and diphenyl dithiocarbazone the selenium compounds may be the corresponding compounds of these. The binding agent may be water glass, silicones, boron compounds, ethyl silicate and epoxy resins.ALSO:Compositions for use in forming coatings, comprise cadmium acetate, thiourea and epoxy-resin or a mixture of polymethylphenylsiloxanes dissolved in methanol.ALSO:A method of producing a metal sulphide and/or selenide coating comprises causing a reaction on the surface of a carrier and in the presence of a binding agent, between a compound of the metal and a sulphur and/or selenium compound at a temperature of at least 100 DEG C.
