Abstract

An alloy consists of: .Co.0.25- 2.5% .Ni.0.26-10% .Cu.up to 80% .Zn.up to 50% and is prepared by melting the metals, the heating being continued until the mixture is just molten, and then casting the melt. The nickel and copper are added in the form of grains not exceeding 1 mm. in size. 0.05-5% of Ti enclosed in a nickel sheet may be added to the superheated melt under an inert gas prior to casting. The ingot from the above process is then added to a melt of indium and silver to give the final master alloy for modifying the physical and chemical properties of gold or silver containing 4-40% In and 25-50% Ag (based on the final alloy).
