Abstract
The invention comprises copper phthalocyanine pigments in the a -form in a state of dispersion suitable for pigmenting purposes which comprise intimate mixtures of 0.5-10% of manganese phthalocyanine and if desired 0.5-10% of other metal phthalocyanines, the balance to 100%, but at least 80% being copper pthalocyanine and/or copper monochloro- or monobromo - phthalocyanine. Other metal phthalocyanines mentioned are those of tin, aluminium, magnesium, titanium and vanadium, for example dichloro- and dihydroxy-tin phthalocyanines. Instead of manganese phthalocyanine itself, monochloro-manganese phthalocyanine may be used. The pigments are made by grinding the a - or b -forms of copper phthalocyanine and/or copper monochloro- or monobromo-phthalocyanine, manganese phthalocyanines and the other metal phthalocyanine if any, to produce the a -form and a state of dispersion suitable for pigmenting purposes before, during or after mixing them together. Grinding may be conducted in the presence of an inorganic or organic salt or a solid organic compound capable of subliming and mixing may be effected by grinding or synthesizing the phthalocyanines together. A mixture of the pigments in b -form may also be converted to a -form by prolonged heating in dilute sulphuric acid. Examples are given. The pigments are crystallization- and flocculation-resistant. Specifications 851,494 and 971,044 are referred to.
