Abstract

A process for the conversion of organic compounds, in which an unsaturated organic compound is subjected to a condensation reaction in the presence of a solid phosphoric acid catalyst at a temperature up to about 400ºC and a pressure from atmospheric pressure to approximately 100 atmospheres, characterized by the use of a catalyst that has been manufactured by preparing from a phosphoric acid and a solid siliceous material a mixture having a phosphorus content calculated as p2 or 5 in the ratio of 2.37 to 7.65 parts by weight per part by weight of the siliceous material, heating said mixture until it has acquired a semi-solid moldable state, then transforming the mixture into particulate form and completing the preparation of the catalyst by calcination of said particles at a temperature essentially in the range from 460º to 760º c.
