Abstract
A pellet having an at least partially hollow skirt portion (2) for slidably engaging a gun barrel bore surface via an outer surface of or on the skirt portion, and a core portion (1) located at least partially in the skirt portion hollow (2b). The outer surface and/or the skirt portion is made of an easily plastically deformable material such as lead, aluminium, copper or an alloy thereof, softer than the gun barrel bore surface. The core portion (1) is made of relatively hard to deform material such as steel, brass, for supporting and minimising deformation of the outer surface and/or skirt portion (2). Alternatively, the core may be made of the same material as the skirt but with a surround of relatively hard filler material. The core is in the form of an elongate member or one or more balls. The pellet may include a head portion (2a) made of metal, an alloy thereof or plastics with or without a metallic filler. The head, if present, or the core may be provided with an anaesthetising change and an apertured hypodermic needle tip. The core, in one embodiment, is adapted to be ejected from the rear of the pellet by wind or air pressure in order to enhance the range of the pellet.
