Abstract
A booster for a vehicle braking system has a rearwardly projecting extension (8) through which atmospheric air enters the booster, a filter (25, 26) for filtering the air being disposed in the extension (8) and radially spaced from the control rod (10) to leave a space in which the return spring (22) for the control rod is accommodated, enabling the length of the booster to be reduced. The return spring (22) acts between the control rod (10) and a filter support member (21) which is slotted to allow the air to pass through it. The external surface of the filter is non-circular and defines air ducts (27) along which the air flows before passing substantially radially through the filter which consists of a foam element (25) with a felt lining (26).
