Abstract

The invention relates to a high-performance continuous coating for construction, consisting of a homogeneous mixture of liquid synthetic rubber, with the suitable pigments and additives thereof, expanded perlite, comminuted expanded polyurethane in the form of saw dust and short threads of white fibre. The product, which is in the form of a fluid paste prepared so as to be spread uniformly over the surfaces of floors, façades and covers, improves the good properties of elasticity, adhesion, resistance and impermeability of the synthetic rubber, once dry, and provides it with heat and acoustic capacity, forming an economical and ecological coating that is easily applicable either by means of a spray gun or a conventional trowel.

Continuous high performance coating for construction

The object of the present invention is a continuous coating of high physical and mechanical performance for the construction sector, to be used advantageously in floors, facades and roofs.

This new coating consists of a fluid mass or paste of adequate viscosity to be projected onto the surfaces by mechanical means, or to be applied manually with a trowel or similar tool, formed by a homogeneous mixture of liquid synthetic rubber as the main component, which is a Ideal product for coatings due to its elasticity and adhesion once dry, with convenient proportions of expanded perlite, crushed expanded polyurethane and white fiber in threads, which enhance these good properties of synthetic rubber, improving its adhesion, impermeability and resistance, and providing it with a important thermal and acoustic insulating capacity.

The technical field in which the invention is framed is that of the coating compositions for application under construction, more specifically that of rubber-based compositions.

STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE.-

It is known the existence in the current state of the art of procedures, methods and compositions for coating in construction in which synthetic rubber plays an important role, due undoubtedly to its good characteristics of elastic, adherent material and, in solid state, abrasion resistant

In fact, there are some published patents related to this type of insulation. For example, the patent with publication number ES8707988A1 describes a method for manufacturing a structure coated with an antifouling polymer composition containing vulcanized silicone rubber, especially intended for underwater protection. On the other hand, the ES2092434B1 patent deals with a process for surface waterproofing in which the waterproofing compound is formed by mixing a bitumen-based asphalt emulsion and a rubber-based latex emulsion. The patent document with publication number ES2082573T3, which deals with the use of polymethylmethacrylate-based coating masses for the achievement of a rough surface structure, can also be cited as an example of the prior art.

Due to these good properties of synthetic rubber, this elastomer has been considered as the base component of the new coating developed for construction. The synthetic rubber in liquid state has been chosen as raw material to obtain a fluid paste that allows to apply a continuous coating on the surfaces, in the form of a uniform layer, without joints or overlaps, either by mechanical projection or with traditional trowel, and has selected the expanded perlite, the expanded polyurethane and the white fiber in threads as additional components that improve the adhesion, resistance and impermeability characteristics of an already very elastic product, and that give it insulating capacity, in

It is not known until now a continuous coating based on synthetic rubber with components and features like the one developed. The investigation carried out in the state of the art through searches in SPTO patent databases has given the result mentioned above, of the existence of some coating compositions using rubber, but none anticipating the main components of the product in question . Consultations of non-patent literature through the Internet have also given negative results, so that the referred product is considered of invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION.-

Entering details, the high performance continuous cladding for the construction claimed in the invention, and which, like any continuous cladding, allows to cover evenly, without joints or overlaps, the surface of facades, floors and roofs on which it is applied, is constituted from a homogeneous mixture formed by 91-94% by weight of liquid synthetic rubber, with additives and pigments of high resistance to confer certain texture and color, antifoam and antishock, 3-5% expanded perlite, 2-4% crushed expanded sawdust polyurethane, and 0.20.5% white fiber in short strands.

In a preferred embodiment, the coating has a composition per liter of synthetic rubber, 34 grams of expanded perlite, 23 grams of expanded polyurethane and 4 grams of white fiber in threads.

The product, once applied and dried, can be subjected to sanding and scraping operations to leave it completely smooth, or similar to the traditional monolayer, being able to subsequently apply two thin hands of the same material with the chosen color.

There is therefore a new continuous coating for the construction, to be applied to all the surfaces of the buildings in the form of a uniform layer, whose main advantage is to obtain by means of a single product, cheap and ecological, given the economic of its components, excellent performance of elasticity, adhesion, resistance, impermeability and thermal and acoustic insulation, which results in versatility of application, durability, maintenance of buildings and comfort inside.

These important advantages of the new coating derive from the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of its components.

First, and as the main element of the mixture from which it is formed, is synthetic rubber. This type of rubber, a substitute for natural rubber when improved elasticity properties of materials are required, is an elastomer, which has the mechanical property of being able to suffer much more elastic deformation under stress than most materials and still return to its previous size without permanent deformation. In the specific case of liquid synthetic rubber, it is presented in the form of a fluid paste of very easy application, which when dried or cured results in an elastic membrane of high resistance, without joints or flaps. This membrane does not dissolve in water, which guarantees the waterproofing of the surface on which it is applied. In addition, liquid rubber has great adhesion, being able to be applied on almost all construction surfaces, whether terraces, concrete walls, plasters, plaster, normal brick and face-view brick, varnished ceramics, terracotta, stone, tiles, slate , galvanized iron, stainless steels, lacquered aluminum, PVC, etc. Therefore, it is the liquid synthetic rubber used as the base component of the product, to which its properties of continuous elastic, adherent and impermeable coating are due.

The second element in percentage is the expanded perlite. This is a ceramic material widely used in construction because of its light weight, as it contains large amounts of air inside, and for its excellent characteristics as thermal and acoustic insulation, hence it is the component that gives the coating insulating properties.

Third is expanded polyurethane. Polyurethane is a well known polymer that has excellent characteristics for construction insulation. Among some of the most interesting are its total adhesion to all types of surfaces, its low thermal conductivity due to its physical-mechanical composition, its resistance to the attack of acids, alkalis and microorganisms and its non-porosity, which prevents the passage of Water through it. Therefore, a small addition of crushed expanded polyurethane, as a sawdust, in the defined quantity, improves the insulation, strength, impermeability and adhesion of the coating.

Finally, it is also important the small proportion of white fiber in the form of short strands added, whose main function is to act as reinforcement material, since during the curing process they constitute a three-dimensional and homogeneous reinforcement throughout the mass of material, providing a greater resistance to mechanical stresses of bending, traction or cutting, thus improving the resistance of the coating.

In short, the expanded polyurethane, the expanded perlite and the fiber in short threads, once kneaded together with the liquid synthetic rubber in a fluid homogeneous mass, and applied the same, form a continuous coating that in addition to its thermal, acoustic and thermal insulating properties waterproof, it provides a great resistance to the inclement weather, for its resistance to both high and low temperatures, even to the powerful hailstones for its rebound effect, thanks to its great flexibility and absorption to impacts, avoiding breakage of the materials exposed to said inclement weather, or due to unforeseeable circumstances, as well as to achieve decorative effects, without the need to apply any other material.

This coating has excellent properties of continuous insulation, thermal insulation, acoustic, elastic and waterproof, and all this in a single product. It is cheap, ecological and easy to apply on floors, facades and roofs, even very light, so it does not affect the structures that support the loads. It is also very resistant and durable because it minimally affects the constant change of temperatures, suffering very slight dilations and contractions, so it suffers minimal wear.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENT.-

The development of this new coating product is simple and economical, since both the base materials and the tools necessary for mixing are widely known, cheap and accessible.

To obtain it, the synthetic liquid rubber, including the additives and pigments, is mixed with the other elements according to the aforementioned proportions. Ideally, based on 1 liter of synthetic rubber

5 with its pigments and additives, 34 grams of expanded perlite, 23 grams of expanded polyurethane and 4 grams of white fiber in the form of short strands should be added. The resulting mixture is kneaded in any type of kneader or mechanical mixer until a homogeneous paste is obtained

As for its application, the fluid mass can be projected on the surface to be treated by mechanical means, such as hoses or spray guns.
