Abstract

La presente invención describe la secuencia nucleotídica de un nuevo gen humano, la DNA polimerasa kappa (k), la proteína DNA polimerasa k y sus isoformas producto de un procesamiento alternativo de su mRNA. Igualmente se describe la asociación específica de varias de estas isoformas con fenotipos tumorales por lo que puede ser un marcador de presencia, desarrollo y pronóstico tumoral. Por otro lado, la Pol k puede estar implicada en la etiopatogenia de procesos que cursen con defectos en reparación de DNA, como tumores o enfermedades degenerativas del sistema nervioso central, por lo que se abren perspectivas de nuevos abordajes diagnósticos y terapéuticos de estas patologías.
