La traslación axial se puede realizar por fricción o rodadura. Puede sujetar una línea catenaria o tranviaria (hilo trolley); en el primer caso el cable sustentador (7) puede apoyarse o suspenderse de su elemento fijador (4), en el segundo (figuras 6, 7, 8, 9 y 10), el hilo de contacto tendrá flexibilidad en sentido vertical. Puede acoplársele una trompa complementaria (10) para retención del atirantado (6).
