Abstract

Fibra óptica de alta birrefringerancia geométrica que se logra por un apilamiento adecuado de múltiples subestructuras elongadas de dos tipos distintos que son homogéneas a lo largo de la dirección axial, siendo las subestructuras que pertenecen a un mismo tipo básicamente iguales. La disposición de estas subestructuras es tal que permite el guiado de luz por interferencia múltiple en una región de la fibra denominada núcleo. Tanto el primer tipo de subestructura como el segundo está constituido por dos medios básicamente transparentes con índices de refracción distintos que se encuentran distribuidos homogéneamente a lo largo de la dirección axial, pero el índice de refracción promedio en cada tipo de subestructura es distinto. La presente invención posibilita la consecución de birrefringencias inducidas por la geometría de varios órdenes de magnitud mayores que las que presentan las fibras ordinarias de birrefringencia muy alta. Estas birrefringencias geométricas pueden ser incluso mayores que las inducidas por tención en estas fibras de birrefringencia muy alta.
