Abstract

Depsipeptides are used as inhibitors of bone resorption by human osteoclasts and are represented by an overall formula (A) in which R1 represents -CH(CH3) (C2H5) and R2 represents -CH2CH(C1-)CH2 - OH2, R1 represents -CH(CH3)2 and R2 represents 2S, 3-propanidiol, R1 represents CH(CH3) (C2H5) and R2 represents 2R,3-propanidiol or R1 represents CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents 2R,3 - propanidiol. Also involved are the known constituents of the formula (A) where R1 represents - CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents -CH2-CH=CH2, R1 represents CH(CH3)2 and R2 represents - CH2-CH(CH32, R1 represents - CH(CH3)2 and R2 represents 2,3-epoxipropyl, R1 represents -CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents - CH2CH(OH)CH2Cl or R1 represents -CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents 2S,3 propanidiol, as inhibitors of vacuolar H+-ATPasa. These constituents and those of formula (A) where R1 represents - CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents O CH2-CH(CH3)2 or R1 represents - CH(CH3)(C2H5) and R2 represents 2,3-epoxypropyl are obtained by means of cultivation of the fungus Metarhizium anisopliae.
