Abstract
Process for promoting chemical bonding between elastomers and carbon blacks through benzene sulphonyl azide derivatives. The strengthening power of a carbon black depends on the nature and density of interactions between the particle surface and the polymer matrix. High strength interactions are most important for improving the strengthening response of a carbon black. There are chemical products which act as "promoters" or "coupling agents" which when added to an elastomer/carbon black mixture before or while the rubber is being chopped, improving the strengthening of the filler, giving rise to vulcanisates with superior physical properties. The strength of interactions at the filler-elastomer interphase is improved through benzene sulphonyl azide derivatives.
