Abstract
1292748 Asbestos-containing composites GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 23 June 1970 [26 June 1969] 30451/70 Headings C3P and C3Q High modulus vulcanized composite structures, particularly for use in tyres, comprise asbestos fibres of length 2000 Angstrom to 1 inch embedded within and bonded to an elasto. mer, said bond being the product of an in situ reaction of a bonding agent system during vulcanization. Suitable elastomers include natural rubber, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, SBR and butadiene-acrylonitrile rubbers. Suitable bonding agent systems are resorcinol/ hexamethylene tetramine, 2,4,4-trimethyl-2<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>,7-trihydroxy flavin/l - azo - 5 - methylol- 3,7 - dioxabicyclo(3,3,0)octane and vinylfunctional silanes. Silica may also be present. Examples describe vulcanized composites formed from a mixture of natural rubber, SBR, carbon black and a bonding agent system with or without silica.
