Abstract

The programmable watering controller has pre-set high and low thresholds for soil moisture. The moisture in the soil is measured and compared to these thresholds, and the water supply turned on or off if the measured moisture level is beyond these thresholds. The controller limits the time that water is delivered to allow time for the water to soak into the soil. The cycle of water delivery and soaking time continues till the moisture in the soil exceeds the upper threshold. Water delivery is then inhibited till the soil is dry again. A minimum amount of water is delivered over a longer time to safeguard against failure of the sensor. The threshold values and the time intervals are entered into programmable memory.
