A SECOND MECHANISM (152) IS AVAILABLE TO MOVE PRINTING MEDIA (30) ON A SECOND AXIS (MEDIA), CROSS-CUTTING TO THE FIRST AXIS. A POSITION ENCODER (152) DETECTS THE POSITION OF THE CAR ASSEMBLY ON THE MEDIA AXIS. A CONTROL CIRCUIT (300) PROVIDES ELECTRICAL SIGNALS THAT MAKE THE NOZZLES (502, 504, 506, 508), IN THE INK JET CARTRIDGES (102, 104, 106, 108), EJECT INK OVER THE MEDIA (30) AND THEY CREATE AN IMAGE ABOVE THEM IN THE FORM OF A TEST PATTERN (40), IN RESPONSE TO TIMING SIGNALS. THE SYSTEM OF THE INVENTION INCLUDES A SENSOR MODULE (200), WHICH OPTIMALLY DETECTS THE IMAGE AND PROVIDES A SET OF SIGNALS DETECTED IN RESPONSE TO IT. DETECTED SIGNALS ARE DISPLAYED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE POSITION ENCODER SIGNALS, TO PROVIDE CORRECTED TIMING SIGNALS. IN A SPECIAL VERSION, THE TEST PATTERN (140) IS ILLUMINATED BY A LIGHT SOURCE (232), IN THE SENSOR MODULE (200). THE LIGHT SOURCE (230) HAS A SPECTRAL ENERGY IN THE BANDS OF COLORS OF INTEREST. THE TEST PATTERN (40) INCLUDES A PLURALITY OF VERTICALLY SPACED BARS WHICH, WHEN EXAMINED BY THE SENSOR MODULE (200), ALLOW THE MODULE (200) TO GENERATE AN OUTPUT SIGNAL OF A GIVEN FREQUENCY. THE OUTPUT SIGNAL IS SAMPLED AND PROCESSED, TO PROVIDE THE CORRECTED TIMING SIGNALS, FOR THE ACTIVATION OF THE NOZZLES. THROUGH THE DETECTION OF THE POSITION OF THE PATTERN (40), THE LACK OF ALIGNMENT OF A PARTICULAR STYLE CAN BE CORRECTED.
