Abstract

The proposal is for a motor-vehicle exterior rearview mirror which serves for observing the terrain behind the vehicle. The motor-vehicle exterior rearview mirror comprises a base part which is fixed on the vehicle body and on which a mirror carrier is articulated and can be brought closer to the vehicle body, and distanced from the latter, by turning it around the upright hinge pin which is essentially parallel to the mirror plane. For this purpose, the motor-vehicle exterior rearview mirror has a driving device with an electric motor and a step-down gear, and, to limit the turning movement in the operational position of the mirror a stop on the mirror, carrier comes to rest on a counter-stop which is preferably connected to the mirror base. A motor-vehicle exterior rearview mirror which is particularly compact and can be fitted in a simple manner results if the step-down gear has a gear element which is held releaseably with respect to the mirror base and on which the counter-stop is formed.
