Abstract

The sleeve (4) is pressed onto the handle (1) for a distance such that it bears against the tool-head with the handle inserted. It is fixed to the handle by screwing, riveting or notching. The handle is drilled centrally to take a woodscrew (11) and also an annular wedge (7). After the handle has been driven home, the wedge is hammered into it, and a hardened locking plate (9) is provided for the wedge. The plate is held in place by the woodscrew, which passes through a hole in it and the wedge to engage in the handle.
