Abstract

In these microfiltration modules, the water to be filtered passes from the outside to the inside of the fibre which has a porous wall. There is a periodic need to wash the filter countercurrentwise, in order to remove the incipient layer of contaminate materials formed around the tubular fibres as well as that which has become encrusted inside them. A bundle of hollow fibres 11 is constructed, the ends of which are glued with a resin 12 which is chemically stable and which withstands temperatures of at least 120 degree C. The fluid to be filtered passes through the walls of the fibres 11, following the axial conduit 19 thereof. In order to wash the microfiltration modules 4, the passage of fluid is halted, opening the corresponding emptying-aperture valve 9, subsequently injecting, for a few seconds and in a sudden manner, water vapour (steam) at high pressure, passing through the membrane from the inside to the outside.
