HEATING PERFORMED IN A NON-REDUCING ATMOSPHERE THAT HAS A TOTAL PRESSURE OF AT LEAST ONE ATMOSPHERE DURING A TIME SUFFICIENT TO FORM A PARTIALLY CARBURIZED MIXTURE. THE SOURCE OF CARBON IS USED AT A LEVEL WHICH IS LESS THAN THE ESTHEOMETRIC AMOUNT NEEDED TO PRODUCE METALLIC CARBIDE. THE METHOD MAY FURTHER INCLUDE THE MIXING OF A SUFFICIENT LEVEL OF A PARTIALLY CARBURIZED SOURCE OF CARBON TO THE MIXTURE TO ADJUST A TOTAL CARBON MIXTURE OF A NECESSARY CARBIDE ELECTRO-NECESSARY, NECESIZED, ESQUIOMETRIC, ATMOSPHERE CONTAINING HYDROGEN AT A HIGH SECOND TEMPERATURE WHICH IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE ADJUSTED MIX TO FORM THE METALLIC CARBIDE THAT HAS A PARTICLE SIZE OF LESS THAN 0.2 MICROMETERS IN DIAMETER.
