IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INVENTION, A LARGE AMOUNT OF HARDWARE EXPENSES ARE REMOVED AND MUCH MORE FLEXIBILITY IS GAINED COMPARED WITH THE DECODERS OF THIS TYPE KNOWN SO FAR IN THE DECODING PROCESSES, IMPLEMENTED THROUGH MEDIA (DEC1, DEC2) ASYNCHRONOUSLY WITH REGARD TO REPRODUCTION PROCESSES, IMPLEMENTED THROUGH REPRODUCTION MEANS (DIS). IN ADDITION, AND ALSO IN CONTRAST TO PREVIOUS DECODERS OF THIS TYPE, THE VIDEO DECODER ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION IS NOT EXPLICITLY SYNCHRONIZED TO ITS CORRESPONDING ENCODERS OF THE LAST RELATED. THIS IS DONE THROUGH BRAKING ACTIONS WITHIN A MAIN STORAGE MEMORY (FSM) PLACED BETWEEN THE DECODING MEANS (DEC1, DEC2) AND THE REPRODUCTION MEANS (DIS). THE VARIABLE LENGTH OF A SEPARATOR OF THIS TYPE MAY BE USED TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE REPRODUCTION PROCESSES IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE UNDERFLOW OR OVERFLOW OF THE LAST SEPARATORS AND THE CORRESPONDING DEGRADATION OF THE IMAGE. THIS LAST IS PERFORMED THROUGH (WITH) CONTROL MEANS.
