Abstract
In pipe cleaning using the high-pressure water rinsing process problems arise in clearing the pipe completely of residual water containing solids after the end of the cleaning process. The invention makes use of a rotary water cutter to the cutting head (2) of which can be fitted an air-lock (15) via a rigid, non-rotating shaft (14) which throttles the free pipe cross-section at a distance from the cutting head (2). On the completion of a pre-cleaning cycle, the rotary water cutter (1) with the air-lock (15) fitted to it is withdrawn through the pipe against the direction of advance of the high-pressure water nozzles fitted on the cutting head (2) by means of a winch (9). The injection action of the water jets emitted at top speed from the cutting head (2) nozzles creates a vacuum in the space between the rotary water cutter (1) and the air-lock (15). This produces a strong suction effect towards the rotary water cutter (1) so that most of the residual static water behind the cutter (1) with the solids held in it is in front of the water nozzles of the cutting head (2) and thus forced out of the pipe.
