Abstract

A procedure for operating industrial furnaces is provided, whose waste gases are burned in the waste gas line. According to the invention, the temperature of the waste gas is continuously measured and, when a preset value of the measured waste gas temperature is exceeded, the oxygen content of the atmosphere of the industrial furnace is increased. This has the result that the carbon monoxide released in the furnace and the hydrogen are burned under control already in the furnace and not only in the waste gas line. In this way, energy for heating the industrial furnace can be saved and downstream filter installations are thermally protected.
