NUEVO MICROORGANISMO DEL GENERO CVASULFOLOBUS Y SU USO EN LA BIOLIXIVIACION DE SULFUROS METALICOS PARA RECUPERACION DE METALES. LA PRESENTE INVENCION SE REFIERE A LA BACTERIA CVASULFOLOBUS RIVOTINCTI, UNA MUESTRA DE LA CUAL HA SIDO DEPOSITADA EN LA COLECCION ESPAÑOLA DE CULTIVOS TIPO [UNIVERSIDAD DE VALENCIA, BURJASOT (VALENCIA-ESPAÑA)] BAJO EL NUMERO DE REGISTRO CECT 4489. ESTA BACTERIA SE UTILIZA PARA ACELERAR EL PROCESO DE SOLUBILIZACION DE METALES EN LA LIXIVIACION DE SULFUROS METALICOS. LA NUEVA ESPECIE ES UNA ARQUEOBACTERIA, TERMOFILA EXTREMA, QUIMIOLITOTROFA ESCRICTA, ACIDOFILA EXTREMA, AEROBIA, MOVIL, NO ESPORULANTE, DE FORMA ESFERICA, LIGERAMENTE IRREGULAR DE 1 MIM DE DIAMETRO, CUYA TEMPERATURA OPTIMA DE CRECIMIENTO ESTA ENTRE LOS 65 Y LOS 68º C. EL PH OPTIMO DE CRECIMIENTO ESTA EN TORNO A PH2, AUNQUE SE PUEDE OBSERVAR CRECIMIENTO DE LA POBLACION A VALORES DE PH ENTRE 1 Y 4. TIENE UN METABOLISMO QUIMIOLITOTROFO ESTRICTO. FORMA ACIDO SULFURICO EN EL PROCESO DE OBTENCION DE ENERGIA, LO QUE SE TRADUCE EN UNA ACIDIFICACION DEL MEDIO DE CULTIVO. ES RESISTENTE A ALTAS CONCENTRACIONES DE CATIONES METALICOS Y ES INSENSIBLE A AMPICILINA Y NEOMICINA. EN MINERALES COMPUESTOS POR DIFERENTES SULFUROS METALICOS, ES CAPAZ DE LIXIVIAR ELEVADAS CANTIDADES DE LOS DISTINTOS CATIONES METALICOS QUE COMPONEN EL MINERAL.
