Abstract

Self-aligning aerial for mobile communications via satellite. System composed of a radiating assembly and a receiver enabling automatic self-alignment on the satellite by analysing and processing the signals received on different parts of the radiating assembly. The basic components of the radiating assembly consist of a circular patch operating in fundamental mode and an annular patch concentric with the first, operating in a higher mode of the TMn1 (n>1) type. Two patterns (communications and tracking) are provided between the two which, by means of suitable processing at the receiver supply the signal capable of automatically aligning the aerial on the transmitter that feeds it. Its specific application is in mobile satellite communications terminals where the tracking signal is used both in one plane (terrestrial mobile) and in two (ships or aircraft).
