Abstract

Laminate devices that employ conductor polymers capable of triggering mechanical movements. Laminate devices are presented, which can trigger mechanical movements by the passage of current in an electrolytic medium. The device is a dual layer formed by a conductor polymer sheet, adhered to another flexible sheet. The assembly is folded over the conductor polymer and is extended when cathode or anode (reducer or oxidising) currents pass through it, respectively. The movement produced by the passage of current that originates a chemical oxidation/reduction of the non-conductor polymer is what constitutes the electrochemical mechanical device. The spontaneous oxidation or reduction of the polymer also triggers the corresponding two layer movement. This device is called chemical-mechanical. Both can be used as mechanical devices or chemical sensors of the oxidising or reducing resources. Through the conductivity of the polymer, they can act by mechanically closing alarm or control electric circuits.
