Abstract

An e.m. actuator for a valve has a central pole piece (4) surrounded by a coil (3) and with an axially aligned amature element (6). The armature moves within a thin walled tubular pole piece (17) set into the top pole pieces and is of a non-magnetic material. With the armature in the lower position the bore of the valve (13) is closed. With a small air gap (14) between the armature and top pole piece, a high e.m. force is generated when the coil is energised to raise the armature. ADVANTAGE - Provides high force for small opening action.
