Abstract

The concentration of material suspended in a gas by high- resolution aerodynamic focussing comprises the formation of a jet on expansion of the gas through a partially convergent nozzle and the extraction of a small portion thereof together with the greater part of the suspended material via an extractor located in the immediate vicinity of the focal zone in which most of the suspended material converges. It is possible to arrange for the position of this focal point not to depend only on the size of the particles, which makes it possible uniformly to concentrate an aerosol with a relatively wide size distribution.
