Abstract

To strengthen the muscles of the abdomen and of the intestinal tract, an abdominal trainer is proposed which is provided with a pot-shaped base element (1) and a similarly pot-shaped rotationally-secured but vertically movable operating component (3) mounted on the base element (1). The device is fastened by means of a body-belt fixed to the base element (1) with a support surface (19) lying against the abdomen, in such a way that when the abdomen is pulled in a tensioned pressure spring (5) between the base element (1) and the operating component (3) is released and can be tensioned by causing the abdomen to swell. During this, the pressure spring (5) presses against the base element (1) via a control unit (9) which can be removed in bayonet fashion from the base element (1). The control unit (9) comprises cams (57) which, during rotation of the control unit (9), follow axial sliding surfaces (59) and move the control unit (9) axially in order to adjust the pre-loading force of the pressure spring (5). As the diameter of the control unit (9) is greater than that of the pressure spring (5), the latter can be exchanged through the bearing opening of the control unit (9) in order to modify the hardness of the spring.
