Abstract

A mattress has an upper layer (14) moulded in resilient flexible material with upstanding but slanting transverse ribs (1) having flanges (2) which partially bridge the spaces (3) between the ribs. The ribs (1) slant in opposite directions on either side of an intermediate position (S) towards the respective ends (4, 5). The spaces (3) between the ribs (1) are closed at their ends by side members (8) which are bonded to another layer (9) below the upper layer (14). A neck support member (12) has a portion (13) insertable in any space (3) between the ribs (1) positively to locate that member.
