The relief picture is produced on a postcard, greeting card etc. by using a substrate of foamed thermoplastic. A picture or other design is produced on this substrate by silk screen printing. The card is then embossed with a punch which is heated to between 100 and 130 deg. C, pref. between 110 and 120 deg. C. - The punch is pressed against the substrate at a pressure of at least 0.5 kg per sq. cm.. The substrate is suitably supported during this operation and the area in relief is cut away after it has been produced.
