Definitions
- the invention relates to a mounting ring for a recessed luminaire that enables installation of the luminaire in a recess of an assembly structure, such as a wall, a ceiling or a floor.
- Recessed luminaires are usually used in lighting systems in which there is a suspended ceiling, or a corresponding wall or floor, which has a recess in which the luminaire is installed.
- mounting rings for recessed luminaires are integrally formed, so that the components such as the ring element and the two bars are formed integrally.
- the bars enable the mounting ring to be clamped, as they form the guide elements for corresponding latch arms, which interact with an inner side (top surface) of a respective assembly structure, and thus press a flange-like section of the ring element against the visible outer side (bottom surface) of the mounting surface, thereby fixing the mounting ring.
- the combination of the latch arms and the mounting ring hereby form a mounting system.
- the mounting ring 1100 hereby comprises a ring element 1110 that comprises a flange portion 1112 that is configured to interact with the bottom surface of the assembly structure, and two bars 1120 that are arranged on the ring element 1110.
- the mounting ring 1100 is hereby integrally formed, and protrudes from a circular base portion 1111 of the mounting ring 1100.
- the mounting system 1010 further comprises respective latch arms 1200 that are coupled to the respective bars 1120, and are hereby height-adjustable along the height of the bars 1120, such that they can be moved to an operation position where they interact with the top surface and hereby press the flange portion 1112 of the ring element 1110 against the bottom surface, achieving a clamped fixation of the mounting ring 1100 and thus of the mounting system 1010.
- the height-adjustability is hereby realized via coupling elements 1121 that are arranged on an outwardly facing surface of each bar 1120.
- the latch arms 1200 are operable by a user via handles 1230 for pushing the respective latch arm 1200 downwardly towards the ring element 1110, such that a contact portion 1210 of the respective latch arm 1200 comes in contact with the top surface of the assembly structure.
- the such configured mounting ring, and thus the such configured mounting system are inflexible in terms of adaptability of the mounting ring / mounting system to given scenarios.

- the recessed luminaire 1 is inserted in a too large recess 990, i.e., with a recess diameter extending the outer diameter of the flange portion 112
- the respective latch arms 200 are long enough to reach the top surface 991 even in the respective scenario where the outer diameter of the flange portion 112 is smaller than the diameter of the recess 990, the addition of the respective ring-shaped support element 400 may not be necessary.
- each bar 120 may have coupling elements 121 for coupling with a respective associated latch arm 200.
- the coupling elements 121 enable a height-adjustable positioning of the respective latch arm 200 along the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of the respective bar 120.
- the coupling elements 121 of a respective bar 120 may be formed by a height-adjustable latching mechanism, as exemplary illustrated in more detail in the enlarged view of Figure 4 .
- each bar 120 has two slim side faces extending along the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of a respective bar 120, wherein these slim side faces form guide rails 129 for guiding a respective latch arm 200.
- the bars 120 each may have an elongated slot 123 that extends in a direction parallel to the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of the respective bar 120, whereas the elongated slot 123 may divide the coupling elements 121 of the respective bar 120, and hereby may form a duct for a guide pin 240 of a respective latch arm 200.
- each latch arm 200 may comprise a coupling portion 220 and a contact portion 210, wherein the coupling portion 220 is the portion of the latch arm 200 being attached to the respective bar 120, and the contact portion 210 is arranged on an end of the latch arm 200 opposite to the coupling portion 220, whereas the contact portion 210 is the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 of the assembly structure 900 (or at least interacting with the aforementioned ring-shaped support element 400 in the respective scenarios).

- the coupling elements 121 of the bars 120 can be configured to position the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 (or the respective support element 400) in a certain distance spaced from the flange portion 112 along the installation direction D.
- the coupling elements 121 hereby allow the respective latch arms 200 to latch in a respective position where the contact portion 210 of the respective latch arm 200 contacts the top surface 992 (or at least the support element 400 that is arranged on the top surface 992).
- the distance between the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 (or the respective support element 400) - i.e., the contact portion 210 - and the flange portion 112 essentially corresponds to the width w of the respective assembly structure 900.
- different bars 120 in particular differing with regard to their height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 ) allow for different width w of the assembly structure 900. It may be in particular desired to be able to handle certain distance ranges (respectively to enable a clamping on different assembly structures 900 with respective width w, and thus provide an adaptability in terms of the width range w of the assembly structure 900).
- this distance preferably is a distance range (respectively a width range w) from approximately 1 to 25 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 40 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 100 millimetre, or from approximately 35 to 100 millimetre.
- This distance hereby further relates to the corresponding setting height of the respective bar 120 for coupling with the respective latch arm 200, whereas the difference of the possible range of the setting height of the respective bar 120 minus the height of the respective latch arm 200 corresponds to the width w of the respective assembly structure 900, as shown in Figure 4 .
- the respective range of the setting height may be in the range from 1 to 25 millimetre, or from 1 to 40 millimetre, or from 35 to 100 millimetre, or the like.
- each latch arm 200 may also comprise respective guide elements 230 for guiding the movement along the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of the respective bar 120, wherein preferably the guide elements 230 interact with the guide rails 129 of the respective bar 120.

- the guide pin 240 may further be configured to not only guide the movement of the latch arm 200 in a direction parallel (or inverse) to the installation direction D but also to realize a decoupling of the respective latch arm 200 from the coupling elements 121 of the respective bar 120 upon actuation of the guide pin 240.
- a former configured positioning of the respective latch arm 200 can be re-adjusted either by further moving the latch arm 200 towards the top surface 991 (respectively towards the aforementioned ring-shaped support element 400 in the respective scenario) or by moving the latch arm 200 in the installation direction D, i.e., upwardly to release a former performed clamping of the mounting ring 100, respectively of the mounting system 10.
- the position of the latch arm 200 being in contact with the top surface 991 (respectively the support element 400), and hereby clamping the mounting ring 100, respectively of the mounting system 10 in the recess 990 is also referenced as the operation position O of the respective latch arm 200. This is in particular shown in Figure 3B .
- the mounting position M of a respective latch arm 200 - as exemplary shown in Figure 3A - is a position of the latch arm 200 where mounting of the mounting system 10 inside the recess 990 is enabled. As exemplary shown in Figure 3A this may be realized via a back folding of the respective latch arm 200 in a proximal direction, i.e., towards the center of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10. With this exemplary implementation it is achieved that the mounting system 10 can be further easily inserted in a respective recess 990 without colliding with respective edges of the assembly structure 900 that may prevent an insertion of the mounting system 10. Hence, the outer dimensions of the respective mounting system 10 in the mounting position M of the latch arms 200 may be mainly influenced by the mounting ring 100, such that the insertion is further simplified.
- the shown bars 120 each have a holding mechanism on their top side 122.
- the holding mechanism is for holding a respective latch arm 200 in its respective mounting position M, wherein the top side 122 is arranged opposite to the side of the bar 120 being connected to the ring element 110.
- the diameter of the mounting system 10 at the largest point may be realized by the flange portion 112 (respectively depending on the scenario by the plate shaped circular frame element 300 attached thereto, forming an enlarged flange portion 112x).
- the diameter of the mounting system 10 at the largest point may be realized by the latch arms 200, at least as long as no frame element 300 and ring-shaped support element 400 are required - as these (as shown in various Figures) further extend the diameter of the mounting ring 100, and the mounting system 10.
- the holding mechanism may further be configured to realize a folding movement of the respective latch arm 200 from its mounting position M into an outwardly facing position where the respective latch arm 200 is movable along the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of the respective bar 120.
- the latch arm 200 upon movement of the respective latch arm 200 along the height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 of the respective bar 120 (i.e., in essentially inverse direction to the installation direction D) the latch arm 200 is brought into its respective operation position O, where it interacts with the top surface 991 (or the support element 400 that interacts with the top surface 991).
- the holding mechanism may be configured to realize the folding movement by a tilt of the latch arm 200.
- the tilt starting from the mounting position M may have an angle of approximately 270°, of approximately 180°, of approximately 160°, or of any angle between 160° and 270°.
- the tilt angle realized in the illustrated exemplary implementation is approximately 180°.
- FIG. 5 shows an exemplary implementation of the mounting system 10, whereas the mounting system 10 is inserted into a recess 990 where the use of the support element 400 is necessary, as the recess diameter is too large for the mounting ring 100, and thus the mounting system 10.
- This scenario in particular is given, when old recessed luminaires are replaced with modern recessed luminaires, that require particular less space - in these scenarios the support element 400 and the frame element 300 allow for a fitting installation of such a modern recessed luminaire 1, as the excessive gaps of the recess 990 are bridged on the top surface side via the support element 400 and on the bottom surface side via the frame element 300. This also improves aesthetics of the recessed luminaire 1.
- each bar 120 may be reversibly coupled to the base portion 111, whereas as displayed the bars 120 can be coupled with the ring element 110 via a respective coupling mount 113 that is positioned on the base portion 111 in the presented exemplary embodiment.
- the coupling mount 113 allows for a particular simple and straightforward connection between the respective bar 120 and the ring element 110, and further improves stiffness of the structure of the mounting ring 100.
- the bar 120 hereby comprises respective conjunction elements 124 at its lower end portion that is for coupling with the ring element 110. These conjunction elements 124 hereby interact with the coupling mount 113 for a durably and stiff coupling.
- the bar 120 may be inserted into the respective coupling mount 113 with the conjunction elements 124 ahead, whereas further the conjunction elements 124 may interact with the ring element 110 preferably in a latching manner, e.g., via a snap-in fit, and thus secure the bar 120.
- the coupling mount 113 may in particular allow for a latching connection between the respective bar 120 and the ring element 110, which configures the connection in particular stiff and steady, but also preferably reversible.
- the coupling mount 113 may hereby further comprise an actuator for decoupling the respective connected bar 120 from the ring element 110.
- Figures 12A, 12B and 12C show an exemplary embodiment of such a coupling process between a respective exemplary embodiment of a bar 120 and a respective exemplary embodiment of a ring element 110 of a mounting ring 100.
- the bar 120 may be installed from a bottom side of the mounting ring 100 (wherein the bottom side hereby is the side of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, respectively the luminaire 1 visible for a user when installed in the recess 990).
- the coupling mount 113 may be formed as a duct, having locking elements.
- the bar 120 first enters the coupling mount 113 of the ring element 110 with its top side 122 - as shown in Figure 12A -, wherein the entire bar 120 subsequently passes through the coupling mount 113 - as shown in Figure 12B .
- the coupling process is completed - as shown in Figure 12C .
- the bar 120 is then fixedly attached to the ring element 110 with the such configured coupling process and the interaction of the conjunction elements 124 and the coupling mount. This is applicable to the various implementations of the bar 120 having different heights h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 .
- the coupling mount 113 may have a release element to release the connection between the bar 120 and the ring element 110, such that the connection is reversible.
- the guide rails 129 formed by the slim side faces of a respective bar 120 may further aid in the installation process of the respective bar 120. For removing a previously installed bar 120 the aforementioned steps are to be performed in reverse, such that the bar 120 is moved in a downward direction.
- the number of coupling mounts 113 may be selected.
- a larger mounting ring 100 is equipped with a larger number of bars 120, and thus may consequently be equipped with a larger number of coupling mounts 113.
- a smaller mounting ring 100 is equipped with a higher number of bars 120 (and thus possibly coupling mounts 113) if a particular heavy luminaire unit 20 (e.g., due to a heavy heat sink or other electronic equipment) is to be inserted in the respective mounting ring 100 - and vice versa.
- respective bars 120 can be selected with regard to their height h, h 1 , h 2 , h 3 and their respective possible range of their setting height of the coupling with the respective latch arm 200. Hence, a situational selection of the configuration of the respective mounting ring 100 is possible.
- the frame element 300 may provide an additional contact face for interaction with the lower side surface of a respective bar 120 further enhancing stability and stiffness of the connection between the bar 120 and the ring element 110.
- the conjunction elements 124 of the bar 120 may be provided with certain contact elements to not only provide a stiff coupling to the ring element 110 but also to further interact with the frame element 300.

- the flange portion 112 may be equipped with holes 119, and thus has a holey surface 112b, or as an alternative may be provided with a continuous and smooth surface 112a.
- the smooth surface 112a is preferred in scenarios, where the flange portion 112 is visible for a user
- the holey surface 112b is preferred in scenarios where the assembly structure 900, and in particular the bottom side 992 of the assembly structure 900 is to be plastered after installation of the mounting system 10, respectively of the recessed luminaire 1.
- the holes 119 may be plastering holes 119.
- Both configurations of the surface of the flange portion 112 are suitable for attaching a respective plate shaped circular frame element 300.
- the coupling between these components may hereby be performed via an adhesive coupling, a soldering coupling, a welding coupling, or preferred via an ultrasonic soldering coupling 500.
- the implementation of the coupling is hereby dependent on the respective materials of the components. As the components are preferably made out of plastic material, the ultrasonic soldering coupling 500 provides an utmost durable and stiff coupling.
- the frame element 300 is preferably mounted on the flange portion 112 having a holey structure 112b.
- This further benefits durability of the coupling.

- the frame element 300 is necessary in situations where the recess 990 is larger than the outer diameter of the flange portion 112, as otherwise a clamping at the bottom surface 992 is not possible, the necessity of the support element 400 is not always given.

Description
- The invention relates to a mounting ring for a recessed luminaire that enables installation of the luminaire in a recess of an assembly structure, such as a wall, a ceiling or a floor.
- Recessed luminaires are usually used in lighting systems in which there is a suspended ceiling, or a corresponding wall or floor, which has a recess in which the luminaire is installed. Currently known mounting rings for recessed luminaires are integrally formed, so that the components such as the ring element and the two bars are formed integrally. The bars enable the mounting ring to be clamped, as they form the guide elements for corresponding latch arms, which interact with an inner side (top surface) of a respective assembly structure, and thus press a flange-like section of the ring element against the visible outer side (bottom surface) of the mounting surface, thereby fixing the mounting ring. The combination of the latch arms and the mounting ring hereby form a mounting system.
- The general principle of installation of recessed luminaires via a mounting ring that is inserted in a recess prior to coupling the luminaire unit of the recessed luminaire thereto is described in
EP 3 141 799 B1 . - Such a currently known mounting ring and such a known mounting system are shown in
Figure 11 . The mounting ring 1100 hereby comprises a ring element 1110 that comprises a flange portion 1112 that is configured to interact with the bottom surface of the assembly structure, and two bars 1120 that are arranged on the ring element 1110. The mounting ring 1100 is hereby integrally formed, and protrudes from a circular base portion 1111 of the mounting ring 1100. The mounting system 1010 further comprises respective latch arms 1200 that are coupled to the respective bars 1120, and are hereby height-adjustable along the height of the bars 1120, such that they can be moved to an operation position where they interact with the top surface and hereby press the flange portion 1112 of the ring element 1110 against the bottom surface, achieving a clamped fixation of the mounting ring 1100 and thus of the mounting system 1010. The height-adjustability is hereby realized via coupling elements 1121 that are arranged on an outwardly facing surface of each bar 1120. Hereby the latch arms 1200 are operable by a user via handles 1230 for pushing the respective latch arm 1200 downwardly towards the ring element 1110, such that a contact portion 1210 of the respective latch arm 1200 comes in contact with the top surface of the assembly structure. - The such configured mounting ring, and thus the such configured mounting system however are inflexible in terms of adaptability of the mounting ring / mounting system to given scenarios. In particular, as the ring element is integrally coupled with the bars, the known mounting ring is not adaptable to different assembly situations, e.g., where only a very low mounting depth is available, and thus short bars are required; or where the assembly structure has a particular big width, and thus requires long bars; and the like. Hence, with the known mounting ring, and thus the known mounting system for a recessed luminaire a flexible and situation-related installation is not realisable.
- Thus, the invention is concerned with the task of providing an improved mounting ring, and further a respective improved mounting system, and a respectively improved recessed luminaire, with a flexible configuration and adjustability concerning installation thereof. This task is solved by the mounting ring according to independent claim 1, respectively the mounting system according to independent claim 10, and respectively the recessed luminaire according to independent claim 15. The invention is defined in the respective independent claims. Additional features of the invention are provided in the respective dependent claims.
- According to the invention a mounting ring of a recessed luminaire is provided. The mounting ring is hereby configured for mounting a luminaire unit of the recessed luminaire in a recess of an assembly structure, the assembly structure having a top surface and a bottom surface. The mounting ring is further configured for insertion in the recess in an installation direction, and the mounting ring comprises:
- a ring element, wherein the ring element comprises a flange portion, wherein the flange portion is configured to interact with the bottom surface; and
- at least two bars that are arranged on the ring element.
- Hereby each bar is arranged substantially perpendicularly on the ring element projecting substantially parallel in installation direction from the ring element over a height. Each bar is further configured for coupling with a latch arm that interacts with the top surface and holds the mounting ring within the recess. Also each bar has coupling elements for coupling to the respective latch arm, the coupling elements enabling a height-adjustable positioning of the respective latch arm along the height of the respective bar. Furthermore, each bar is a separate element that is toollessly attached to the ring element.
- With the such configured mounting ring an utmost flexible and situation-related operable mounting ring is achieved, that allows for a flexible and situation-related installation of a recessed luminaire in a respective recess. Hereby, different implementations of bars are flexibly attachable to the ring element, such that different assembly situations are manageable. For instance, in a scenario where only a low mounting depth is available - i.e., the distance between assembly structure and underlying surface, e.g., of a wall, of a floor, of a ceiling or the like, is small - respectively configured bars with small heights can be attached to the ring element. Also in scenarios where the assembly structure has a varying width, such that different thicknesses have to be managed by the mounting ring, the such configured mounting ring easily is adapted thereto, with respective bars of different heights. Further, due to the toollessly attachment, the assembly process of the mounting ring is utmost easy and uncomplicated. Hence, with the such provided mounting ring operational flexibility is highly improved.
- Moreover, a mounting system of a recessed luminaire is provided. Likewise, the mounting system is for installing a luminaire unit of the recessed luminaire in a recess of an assembly structure, the assembly structure having a top surface and a bottom surface. The mounting system per se is also configured for installation in the recess in an installation direction. The mounting system hereby comprises:
- a mounting ring according to any herein described or shown exemplary implementations of a mounting ring according to the invention; and
- at least two latch arms, wherein each latch arm is arranged on one of the bars of the mounting ring and is movable from a mounting position into an operating position, whereas each latch arm is movable along the bars height to reach the operating position.
- Hereby, the at least two bars of the mounting ring allow for a height-adjustable positioning of their respective latch arm, wherein the respective latch arms are configured to interact with the top surface in the operating position, clamping the mounting system inside the recess with the flange portion of the mounting ring interacting with the bottom surface.
- The such configured mounting system benefits from the respective configured mounting ring analogously - as previously mentioned. Hereby, the mounting system is operable in various scenarios, providing a flexibility in terms of installation of the system.
- Furthermore, a recessed luminaire for installation within a recess of an assembly structure is proposed. Hereby the assembly structure still has the top surface and the bottom surface, as previously mentioned. The recessed luminaire hereby comprises:
- a luminaire unit, having a housing and light emission elements; and
- a mounting system according to any herein described or shown exemplary implementations of a mounting system, wherein the luminaire unit is coupled to the mounting system.
- The such configured recessed luminaire benefits from the respective configured mounting system, respectively the mounting ring analogously - as previously mentioned. Hereby, the recessed luminaire is operable in various scenarios, providing a flexibility in terms of construction and installation of the luminaire.
- Optionally, the ring element further comprises a circular base portion, wherein the circular base portion extends essentially parallel to the installation direction, and wherein the flange portion protrudes substantially distally from the circular base portion in a direction substantially perpendicularly to the installation direction, and hereby forms a contact surface for interaction with the bottom surface. The such configured structure of the mounting ring is utmost durable and stable, and provides an improved stiffness.
- Optionally, each bar is reversibly coupled to the base portion. The such configured mounting ring is further improved with regard to its flexibility, operational safety and sustainability. Hereby, maintenance of the mounting ring is eased, as now simply the broken part is to be replaced, whereas, e.g., a broken bar, or a bar with worn coupling elements can be easily swapped with a new bar. Also, changing situational scenarios are further simplified manageable, as, e.g., bars with different heights can be provided, depending on the respective situation. The reversibly coupling hereby holds the respective bar with a force that is equal to or stronger than the force applied to the coupling via the clamping of the mounting ring inside the recess. In particular the force that acts on the coupling between the base portion and each bar during fixture of the mounting ring within the recess, i.e. the force that acts on the bar in the installation direction with the latch arm pushing the respective bar away from the top surface of the assembly structure (respectively of the ring-shaped support element), while the ring element (respectively the flange portion, or the enlarged flange portion) being in contact with the bottom surface of the assembly structure, is smaller than the force connecting the respective bar to the ring element. Hence, the reversible coupling is durable and steady, such that operational safety of the luminaire is achieved.
- Optionally, each bar is coupled with the ring element via a coupling mount. With the provision of specific elements for coupling of the separate components of the mounting ring, the assembly of the mounting ring and also durability of the mounting ring is further improved. Hereby the coupling mount may especially be built for a proper fitting attachment of the respective bar to the ring element, such that the respective bar is coupled utmost stiff and a play or even a jiggle of the bar is avoided. Preferably the coupling mount allows for a latching connection. This further eases coupling and decoupling of the individual bars from the mounting ring, and thus improves assembly and maintenance of the mounting ring. Further preferably the coupling mount is arranged on the base portion. This further improves durability and stiffness of the connection between the bars and the ring element. Further preferably the coupling elements of the bar are formed by a height-adjustable latching mechanism. This further improves operability of the mounting system, and thus eases installation of the mounting ring. Also installation of the mounting system is simplified.
- Optionally, each bar has a holding mechanism on its top side for holding a respective latch arm in a mounting position, wherein preferably the top side is arranged opposite to the side of the bar being connected to the ring element. The such configured mounting ring allows a further facilitated installation of the mounting system. Hereby, the respective latch arms can be coupled to the mounting ring in a mounting position, that allows mounting the mounting ring in the recess.
- Optionally the holding mechanism is hereby further configured to realize a folding movement of the respective latch arm from its mounting position into an outwardly facing position where the respective latch arm is movable along the height of the respective bar into its respective operation position. In particular each latch arm is folded over the top of the respective bar so far that it no longer lies outside the ceiling cut-out diameter (i.e., the recess diameter), but within the installation frame, respectively the mounting ring. Hereby preferably the holding mechanism is configured to realize the folding movement by a tilt of the latch arm, wherein in particular the tilt starting from the mounting position has an angle of approximately 270°, of approximately 180°, of approximately 160°, or of any angle between 160° and 270°. The such configured mounting ring, and respectively the such configured mounting system allows for a further facilitated installation process. Hereby, the latch arms are arranged on the mounting ring during installation of the mounting ring inside the recess in the installation direction, such that a respective user just hast to reposition the respective latch arms from their mounting position into the operation position, where the respective latch arm interacts with the top surface of the assembly structure. With the folding movement from an inside/proximal facing position (i.e., mounting position) of a respective latch arm, it is further exemplary provided that the outer dimensions of the mounting system are mainly affected by the mounting ring. Hence, insertion and installation of the mounting ring, and thus of the mounting system is especially simple for a user.
- Optionally, bars of different heights are couplable to the ring element. As previously mentioned, due to the modular setup of the mounting ring with the separate bars being separately couplable to the ring element, also different configurations of the respective bars are conceivable. Hereby, different heights may be required depending on the installation situation. In a special situation it is further conceivable that at least one bar of the at least two bars has a different height than at least one of the remaining bars. This may be useful, when the installation depth is non-uniform, i.e., when the distance of the top surface of the assembly structure towards the underlying element (e.g., floor, ceiling, or wall) varies in the area of installation of the respective recessed luminaire, and thus in the area of installation of the mounting system, and hence of the mounting ring. Hereby it is in particular possible to have bar heights in the range of 20 to 120 millimetres, preferably in the range of 25 to 100 millimetres, further preferably 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 95, 100, 105, and/or 110 millimetres. With these heights different installation depths of the mounting ring / the mounting system and the recessed luminaire are realizable.
- Optionally, each latch arm of the mounting system comprises a coupling portion and a contact portion, wherein the coupling portion is the portion of the latch arm being attached to the respective bar, and the contact portion is arranged on an end of the latch arm opposite to the coupling portion, whereas the contact portion is the portion of the respective latch arm interacting with the top surface of the assembly structure. The such configured latch arm further facilitates assembly of the mounting system and installation of the mounting system in the recess.
- Optionally, each bar has two slim side faces extending along the height of a respective bar, wherein these slim side faces form guide rails for guiding a respective latch arm. This further eases installation of the mounting system.
- Optionally, hereby each latch arm comprises respective guide elements for guiding the movement along the height of the respective bar, wherein preferably the guide elements interact with the guide rails of the respective bar. Hereby, the installation procedure of the mounting system is further simplified. Furthermore, with this implementation a synergistic effect between these components is achieved.
- Optionally, each bar has an elongated slot that extends in a direction parallel to the height of the respective bar, whereas the elongated slot divides the coupling elements of the respective bar, and wherein the slot forms a duct for a guide pin of a respective latch arm. This further eases installation of the mounting system, as interaction between a respective latch arm and the respective bar is improved.
- Optionally each latch arm comprises a guide pin that interacts with the respective bar, and preferably interacts with the respective slot of a respective bar, whereas the guide pin is further configured to realize a decoupling of the respective latch arm from the coupling elements of the respective bar upon actuation of the guide pin. This allows for an utmost easy and flexible decoupling of the mounting system from a respective recess.
- Optionally, the flange portion is equipped with plastering holes. Thus, the flange portion is formed by a holey surface. This is especially favourable if it is desired to plaster the respective bottom surface of the assembly structure, e.g., to plaster the respective wall, ceiling or floor. This further improves the coupling of the mounting ring and the assembly structure. Furthermore, aesthetics of the such implemented recessed luminaire is improved. Alternatively the flange portion is formed by a continuous and smooth surface - i.e., a surface without such plastering holes. In this implementation - where a subsequent plastering of the assembly structure is not desired - the smooth lower surface of the flange portion is utmost aesthetic, and further encloses the recess from a bottom side.
- Optionally, the flange portion is coupled to a plate shaped circular frame element that is arranged on a surface of the flange portion opposite to the surface facing the bottom surface of the assembly structure, wherein the frame element extends the flange portion and thus forms an enlarged flange portion. With this implementation gaps in-between the mounting ring and the bottom surface of the assembly structure can be closed. This further improves aesthetics. Preferably the frame element has an outer diameter of approximately 100 millimetre, or 150 millimetre, or 200 millimetre, and wherein further preferably the frame element has an inner diameter essentially corresponding to the inner diameter of the ring element. This allows retrofitting a recessed luminaire in given (too) large recesses, where the recess diameter extends the outer diameter of the flange portion.
- Optionally, the flange portion has a width of approximately 5 to 10 millimetres. This width allows for a stable contact face with the bottom surface of the assembly structure. Of course any width in-between, i.e., approximately 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 millimetres are conceivable. Furthermore, herewith an utmost slim and elegant yet practical flange portion is provided.
- Optionally, the mounting ring, and in particular the ring element and further particular the flange portion, has an inner diameter in a range of 50 to 250 millimetre, in particular in a range of 50 to 100 millimetre, or 100 to 150 millimetre, or 150 to 200 millimetre, or 200 to 250 millimetre; and preferably in a range of 55 to 95 millimetre, or 105 to 145 millimetre, or 155 to 195 millimetre, or 205 to 245 millimetre; and further preferably has a diameter of 50 millimetre, 55 millimetre, 60 millimetre, 65 millimetre, 90 millimetre, 95 millimetre 100 millimetre, or 105 millimetre, or 145 millimetre, or 150 millimetre, or 155 millimetre, or 195 millimetre, or 200 millimetre, or 205 millimetre, or 245 millimetre, or 250 millimetre. With these configuration of the mounting ring flexibility is further improved, as a variety of recess dimensions are operable. Hence, flexibility of assembly and installation of the recessed luminaire is further improved.
- Optionally, the mounting ring is for mounting in the recess of the assembly structure that is formed by a wall, by a ceiling, or by a floor. Hence, no limitations are given in terms of positioning and orientation of the recessed luminaire. The luminaire can thus be a wall-mounted luminaire, a ceiling-mounted luminaire, or a floor-mounted luminaire. Hence, the luminaire can be used for a downlight, spotlight, or wall-washer scenarios, or the like.
- Optionally, the recess is circular. This further eases installation of the mounting ring, and hence of the mounting system. In scenarios where the recess is squared the aforementioned plate shaped frame may be used to cover the excess corner portions of the recess. Hereby the frame element may be circular, oval, or even rectangular in shape. Preferably the mounting ring, and thus the mounting system have a circular base area.
- Optionally, the mounting ring is made out of plastic. This allows for an utmost cheap but still steady, durable and stiff configuration of the mounting ring, and the mounting system. Also, the weight of the respective mounting ring, mounting system and thus of the recessed luminaire can be reduced with this implementation.
- Optionally, the components of the mounting ring are formed by injection molding. In particular the ring element and the bars can be formed by injection molding (in separate moulds, as the bar and the ring element are separate parts). This allows for a cost- and material-saving, and further repeatable production of the mounting ring.
- Optionally, the mounting ring further comprises a part of a reversible securing mechanism that is configured to interact with a respective counterpart that is arranged on the luminaire unit. Hereby preferably the luminaire unit is coupled to the mounting system by means of a reversible securing mechanism, in particular by means of a bayonet connection. This respectively allows for an utmost easy and flexible coupling of the luminaire unit of the recessed luminaire with the mounting ring, and thus with the mounting system, such that installation of the recessed luminaire is further facilitated.
- Optionally, the coupling elements of the bars are configured to position the portion of the respective latch arm interacting with the top surface in a certain distance spaced from the flange portion along the installation direction. Hereby different heights of the respective latch arm relative to the mounting ring, and in particular relative to the flange portion, are achievable, such that different thicknesses / width of the assembly structure can be dealt with. As the flange portion and the respective portion of the latch arm are the interacting elements of the mounting system concerning the clamped fixation of the mounting ring / mounting system within the recess, the distance in-between these portions along the installation direction corresponds to the respective width of the assembly structure. Hence, it is further beneficial to allow for a certain range, to further increase flexibility. Preferably, this distance is a distance range from approximately 1 to 25 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 40 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 100 millimetre, or from approximately 35 to 100 millimetre.
- Optionally, in a mounting position of the latch arms the diameter of the mounting system at the largest point is realized by the flange portion of the ring element of the mounting ring, whereas in the operation position of the latch arms the diameter of the mounting system at the largest point is realized by the latch arms. This allows for an utmost simple installation of the mounting system within the recess.
- Optionally, the luminaire unit of the recessed luminaire is inserted in the mounting system after the mounting system is installed in the recess. With this method, of first inserting the mounting ring, then positioning the latch arms in the operation position for a fixed arrangement of the mounting system within the recess and subsequently coupling the luminaire unit, to form the complete recessed luminaire, an utmost easy installation process is realized. Hereby prior to inserting the mounting ring, the respectively required bars (with their respective configuration, in particular in terms of height) can be selected and coupled to the ring element. Hence, an utmost flexible recessed luminaire and respective mounting system / mounting ring thereof are provided.

Figure 1 shows a recessed luminaire 1 with the luminaire unit 20 being installed in the mounting ring 100, respectively in the mounting system 10. TheFigures 2A to 2E show different exemplary embodiments of mounting systems 10 further showing an exemplary variety of implementations of the bars 120 with regard to their heights h, h1, h2, h3. Hereby each bar 120 is a separate element that is toollessly attached to the ring element 110 of the mounting ring 100.Figures 3A and 3B focus on an exemplary installation process of an exemplary mounting ring 100, respectively of an exemplary mounting system 10, inside a recess 990 of a respective assembly structure 900.Figure 4 further provides an enlarged detail view of the coupling between the ring element 110 and the respective bars 120, showing an exemplary implementation of the coupling mount 113. The coupling process for attaching a respective bar 120 to the ring element 110 is shown in detail inFigures 12A to 12C . Also, the clamping of the mounting ring 100, respectively of the mounting system 10 at the assembly structure 900 is shown inFigure 4 and12C , as the interaction between a respective latch arm 200, that is coupled to a respective bar 120, and the top surface 991 - respectively a thereon arranged ring-shaped support element 400 - of the assembly structure 900, as well as the interaction of the flange portion 112 with the bottom surface 992 of the assembly structure 900 - respectively the interaction of the plate shaped frame element 300 that is attached to the flange portion 112 with the bottom surface 992 - is illustrated. Hereby the flange element 112, respectively the plate shaped frame element 300, and the latch arm 200, respectively the latch arm in combination with the ring-shaped support element 400 perform a clamping fixation of the mounting system 10 inside the recess 990. - Furthermore shown in
Figure 4 andFigure 8 is the exemplary embodiment of the plate shaped frame element 300 being attached to a lower surface of the flange portion 112 of the mounting ring 100. Hereby the plate shaped frame element 300 may be welded by ultrasonic soldering 500 onto the flange portion 112, forming an enlarged flange portion 112x. The ultrasonic soldering coupling 500 between the flange portion 112 and the frame element 300 is further shown in more detail inFigure 8 . The frame element 300 is separately shown inFigure 10 . In the shown embodiments the frame element 300 is of circular shape, however other shapes are also conceivable, such as an oval or rectangular shape. In the shown example, the plate shaped frame element 300 is attached to the ring element 110, as the recessed luminaire 1 is to be inserted in a recess 990 of the assembly structure 900 that has a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the flange portion 112, hence a coupling between the bottom surface 992 of the assembly structure 900 and the top surface 991 of the flange portion 112 would not be possible over the whole length of the flange portion 112. Depending on the size of the latch arms 200 a counterpart is necessary on the top surface 991 of the assembly structure 900 as well, such that the clamping can be reliably performed. Hereby - if the latch arms 200 are not long enough to get in contact with the top surface 991, a ring-shaped support element 400 may be inserted into the recess 990 and placed on the top surface 991, such that the inner diameter of the contact face for the respective latch arms 200 is reduced, as illustrated inFigure 4 , as well as inFigures 5 ,6A and6B .Figures 7 to 9 further illustrate the attachment of the plate shaped frame element 300 to the flange element 112. - The shown embodiments hence provide implementations of the mounting system 10, respectively of the mounting ring 100, and thus as well of the recessed luminaire 1 that improve operation flexibility thereof.
- In every illustrated exemplary embodiment of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10 of
Figures 1 to 9 and12A, 12B and 12C the respective shown bars 120 are separate elements that are toollessly attached to the ring element 110. Moreover, different further implementations of the bars 120 and the mounting ring 100 are shown and discussed herein. - The different implementations of the mounting system 10, and of the mounting ring 100, as well as the recessed luminaire 1, are compatible with each other but are not necessarily combined with each other. However, they may synergistically interact with each other when combined.
- The application hereby focuses on structures of the mounting system 10, respectively of the mounting ring 100, to improve the insertion and installation of the mounting ring 100, respectively of the respective mounting system 10, in a recess 990, to further simplify installation of a respective recessed luminaire 1, whose luminaire unit 20 is attached to the respective mounting system 10 after it is installed within the recess 990.
-
Figure 1 shows a complete setup of a recessed luminaire 1 according to an exemplary embodiment. Hereby the luminaire unit 20 is attached to the mounting system 10. As shown in other Figures, the mounting system 10, and in particular the mounting ring 100, comprises a component of a securing mechanism 117, in particular of a reversible securing mechanism 117. In the shown exemplary embodiments this securing mechanism 117 is realized via a bayonet connection 117. Hereby the luminaire unit 20 comprises respective corresponding components of the securing mechanism 117, such as a bolt or the like, that is configured for interaction with the recess at an inner surface of the mounting ring 100, as shown, e.g., inFigures 2A to 2E ,7 or9 . - The mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, is inserted in the recess 990 in an installation direction D, as illustrated in particular in
Figures 3A and 3B . The luminaire unit 20 is then likewise inserted in the installation direction D into the installed mounting system 10, where it is then fastened via the securing mechanism 117. - In general, the mounting system 10 comprises the mounting ring 100 (in any herein disclosed embodiment) and the respective latch arms 200 that interact with the bars 120 in order to clamp the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, inside the recess 990. Hereby each latch arm 200 is arranged on one of the bars 120 and is movable from a mounting position M into an operating position O, whereas each latch arm 200 is movable along the bars 120 height h, h1, h2, h3 to reach the operating position O. Thus, the bars 120 of the mounting ring 100 allow for a height-adjustable positioning of their respective latch arm 200, wherein the respective latch arms 200 are configured to interact with the top surface 991 in the operating position O, clamping the mounting system 10 inside the recess 990 with the flange portion 112 (or the enlarged flange portion 112x with the frame element 300 attached to the flange portion 112, depending on the scenario) of the mounting system 10 interacting with the bottom surface 992 of the recess 990. The recessed luminaire 1 comprises the luminaire unit 20, having a housing and light emission elements, and the mounting system 10 (in any herein disclosed embodiment), wherein the luminaire unit 20 is coupled to the mounting system 10.
- The mounting ring 100 comprises the ring element 110, and at least two bars 120 that are arranged on the ring element 110. As shown in
Figure 2A (and in the respective right-hand-side exemplary embodiments ofFigures 6A and 6B ) also an implementation with three bars 120 is conceivable. Likewise - and in particular with a further growing diameter of the recessed luminaires 1 - implementations with four bars 120, and so forth, are also conceivable. The other exemplary implementations shown inFigures 1 ,2B to 2E ,3A, 3B ,5 ,6A, 6B, 7 and9 , show respective implementations with two bars 120. Further shown, each bar 120 is attached to the ring element 110 as a separate element, whereas this attachment is performed toollessly. - The ring element 110 hereby has a flange portion 112, that is configured to interact with the bottom surface 992, wherein in the shown exemplary embodiments of
Figures 1 ,4 ,5 ,6A, 6B, 7 ,8 and 9 the respective mounting rings 100 are designed for installation in a recess 990 that has a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the flange portion 112, such that in these scenarios the aforementioned plate shaped circular frame element 300 is used to realize the interaction with the bottom surface 992. Hence, the circular frame element 300 hereby enlarges the flange element 112, resulting in an enlarged flange portion 112x that is configured to interact with the bottom surface 992. - With regard to the shown embodiments of the mounting ring 100, the ring element 110 may comprise a circular base portion 111 that extends essentially parallel to the installation direction D. Hereby the flange portion 112 protrudes substantially distally from the circular base portion 111 in a direction substantially perpendicularly to the installation direction D, and forms a contact surface (upper surface of the flange portion 112) for interaction with the bottom surface 992 - or at least forms an attachment surface (lower surface of the flange portion 112) for attaching the previously mentioned frame element 300 thereto for interaction with the bottom surface 992.
- Each bar 120 may be arranged substantially perpendicularly on the ring element 110 projecting substantially parallel in installation direction D from the ring element 110 over a height h, h1, h2, h3. As in particular illustrated in the various exemplary embodiments of
Figures 2A to 2E different heights h, h1, h2, h3 of the bars 120 are possible. While the exemplary implementations shown inFigures 2A to 2E tend to be used only in special exceptional situations, these illustrations serve mainly to show that the bars 120 can have different heights h, h1, h2, h3. The design of the ring element 110 with the bars 120 mounted on it as separate components makes the mounting ring 100, and therefore the mounting system 10, particularly flexible. This makes it particularly easy to react to correspondingly limited installation depths or particularly thick or thin thicknesses w of the assembly structure 900 and to create and use a correspondingly designed mounting ring 100 or mounting system 10. - Hence, bars 120 of different heights h, h1, h2, h3 are couplable to the ring element 110. Preferably the height h, h1, h2, h3 of a bar 120 is in the range of 20 to 120 millimetre, preferably in the range of 25 to 100 millimetre, further preferably 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 95, 100, 105, or 110 millimetre.
- An example in which bars 120 with different heights are actually used in a mounting ring 100 is a scenario in which the installation depth of the assembly structure 990 (i.e. the distance of the assembly structure 990 from an underlying surface) and/or the thickness w of the assembly structure 990 itself is not constant, whereby the different heights h, h1, h2, h3 of the bars 120 can be used to react to this in a particularly flexible and simple manner.
- As shown in the figures each bar 120 is configured for coupling with a latch arm 200 that interacts with the top surface 991 and holds the mounting ring 100 within the recess 990. In embodiments where the recessed luminaire 1 is inserted in a too large recess 990, i.e., with a recess diameter extending the outer diameter of the flange portion 112, it usually is further required to extend the top surface 991 via a respective ring-shaped support element 400 of the mounting system 10, as previously mentioned. In embodiments where the respective latch arms 200 are long enough to reach the top surface 991 even in the respective scenario where the outer diameter of the flange portion 112 is smaller than the diameter of the recess 990, the addition of the respective ring-shaped support element 400 may not be necessary.
- Furthermore, as shown in the exemplary embodiments, each bar 120 may have coupling elements 121 for coupling with a respective associated latch arm 200. Hereby, the coupling elements 121 enable a height-adjustable positioning of the respective latch arm 200 along the height h, h1, h2, h3 of the respective bar 120. In particular the coupling elements 121 of a respective bar 120 may be formed by a height-adjustable latching mechanism, as exemplary illustrated in more detail in the enlarged view of
Figure 4 . - In the shown exemplary embodiments each bar 120 has two slim side faces extending along the height h, h1, h2, h3 of a respective bar 120, wherein these slim side faces form guide rails 129 for guiding a respective latch arm 200.
- As also exemplary shown, the bars 120 each may have an elongated slot 123 that extends in a direction parallel to the height h, h1, h2, h3 of the respective bar 120, whereas the elongated slot 123 may divide the coupling elements 121 of the respective bar 120, and hereby may form a duct for a guide pin 240 of a respective latch arm 200.
- In view of the presented Figures, but in particular in view of
Figure 4 , it is apparent that in the shown exemplary embodiments each latch arm 200 may comprise a coupling portion 220 and a contact portion 210, wherein the coupling portion 220 is the portion of the latch arm 200 being attached to the respective bar 120, and the contact portion 210 is arranged on an end of the latch arm 200 opposite to the coupling portion 220, whereas the contact portion 210 is the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 of the assembly structure 900 (or at least interacting with the aforementioned ring-shaped support element 400 in the respective scenarios). - As shown in the enlarged view of
Figure 4 the contact portion 210 may be provided with a grip surface 211 that provides a special hold of the mounting system 10 on the top surface 991, respectively on the support element 400. - In view of
Figures 3A, 3B and4 it is apparent that the coupling elements 121 of the bars 120 can be configured to position the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 (or the respective support element 400) in a certain distance spaced from the flange portion 112 along the installation direction D. In particular the coupling elements 121 hereby allow the respective latch arms 200 to latch in a respective position where the contact portion 210 of the respective latch arm 200 contacts the top surface 992 (or at least the support element 400 that is arranged on the top surface 992). Hereby the distance between the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the top surface 991 (or the respective support element 400) - i.e., the contact portion 210 - and the flange portion 112 essentially corresponds to the width w of the respective assembly structure 900. Hence, different bars 120 (in particular differing with regard to their height h, h1, h2, h3) allow for different width w of the assembly structure 900. It may be in particular desired to be able to handle certain distance ranges (respectively to enable a clamping on different assembly structures 900 with respective width w, and thus provide an adaptability in terms of the width range w of the assembly structure 900). Hereby, this distance (respectively this width w) preferably is a distance range (respectively a width range w) from approximately 1 to 25 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 40 millimetre, or from approximately 1 to 100 millimetre, or from approximately 35 to 100 millimetre. This distance hereby further relates to the corresponding setting height of the respective bar 120 for coupling with the respective latch arm 200, whereas the difference of the possible range of the setting height of the respective bar 120 minus the height of the respective latch arm 200 corresponds to the width w of the respective assembly structure 900, as shown inFigure 4 . Hereby it is also conceivable that the respective range of the setting height may be in the range from 1 to 25 millimetre, or from 1 to 40 millimetre, or from 35 to 100 millimetre, or the like. - Furthermore, each latch arm 200 may also comprise respective guide elements 230 for guiding the movement along the height h, h1, h2, h3 of the respective bar 120, wherein preferably the guide elements 230 interact with the guide rails 129 of the respective bar 120.
- Also shown in the exemplary embodiments is the exemplary configuration of the latch arm 200 comprising a guide pin 240 that interacts with the respective bar 120, and preferably interacts with the respective slot 123 of the respective bar 120. Hereby, the guide pin 240 may further be configured to not only guide the movement of the latch arm 200 in a direction parallel (or inverse) to the installation direction D but also to realize a decoupling of the respective latch arm 200 from the coupling elements 121 of the respective bar 120 upon actuation of the guide pin 240. Hence, a former configured positioning of the respective latch arm 200 can be re-adjusted either by further moving the latch arm 200 towards the top surface 991 (respectively towards the aforementioned ring-shaped support element 400 in the respective scenario) or by moving the latch arm 200 in the installation direction D, i.e., upwardly to release a former performed clamping of the mounting ring 100, respectively of the mounting system 10.
- The position of the latch arm 200 being in contact with the top surface 991 (respectively the support element 400), and hereby clamping the mounting ring 100, respectively of the mounting system 10 in the recess 990 is also referenced as the operation position O of the respective latch arm 200. This is in particular shown in
Figure 3B . - The mounting position M of a respective latch arm 200 - as exemplary shown in
Figure 3A - is a position of the latch arm 200 where mounting of the mounting system 10 inside the recess 990 is enabled. As exemplary shown inFigure 3A this may be realized via a back folding of the respective latch arm 200 in a proximal direction, i.e., towards the center of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10. - In this regard, the shown bars 120 each have a holding mechanism on their top side 122. The holding mechanism is for holding a respective latch arm 200 in its respective mounting position M, wherein the top side 122 is arranged opposite to the side of the bar 120 being connected to the ring element 110. Hereby, in a respective mounting position M of the latch arms 200 the diameter of the mounting system 10 at the largest point may be realized by the flange portion 112 (respectively depending on the scenario by the plate shaped circular frame element 300 attached thereto, forming an enlarged flange portion 112x). In the operation position O of the latch arms 200 the diameter of the mounting system 10 at the largest point may be realized by the latch arms 200, at least as long as no frame element 300 and ring-shaped support element 400 are required - as these (as shown in various Figures) further extend the diameter of the mounting ring 100, and the mounting system 10.
- As in particular shown in the
Figures 3A and 3B , and their synopsis, the holding mechanism may further be configured to realize a folding movement of the respective latch arm 200 from its mounting position M into an outwardly facing position where the respective latch arm 200 is movable along the height h, h1, h2, h3 of the respective bar 120. Hereby, upon movement of the respective latch arm 200 along the height h, h1, h2, h3 of the respective bar 120 (i.e., in essentially inverse direction to the installation direction D) the latch arm 200 is brought into its respective operation position O, where it interacts with the top surface 991 (or the support element 400 that interacts with the top surface 991). As exemplary shown the holding mechanism may be configured to realize the folding movement by a tilt of the latch arm 200. Hereby different tilt angles are conceivable, wherein in particular the tilt starting from the mounting position M may have an angle of approximately 270°, of approximately 180°, of approximately 160°, or of any angle between 160° and 270°. As shown in theFigures 3A and 3B the tilt angle realized in the illustrated exemplary implementation is approximately 180°. -
Figure 5 shows an exemplary implementation of the mounting system 10, whereas the mounting system 10 is inserted into a recess 990 where the use of the support element 400 is necessary, as the recess diameter is too large for the mounting ring 100, and thus the mounting system 10. This scenario in particular is given, when old recessed luminaires are replaced with modern recessed luminaires, that require particular less space - in these scenarios the support element 400 and the frame element 300 allow for a fitting installation of such a modern recessed luminaire 1, as the excessive gaps of the recess 990 are bridged on the top surface side via the support element 400 and on the bottom surface side via the frame element 300. This also improves aesthetics of the recessed luminaire 1. - In particular shown in
Figure 4 each bar 120 may be reversibly coupled to the base portion 111, whereas as displayed the bars 120 can be coupled with the ring element 110 via a respective coupling mount 113 that is positioned on the base portion 111 in the presented exemplary embodiment. The coupling mount 113 allows for a particular simple and straightforward connection between the respective bar 120 and the ring element 110, and further improves stiffness of the structure of the mounting ring 100. The bar 120 hereby comprises respective conjunction elements 124 at its lower end portion that is for coupling with the ring element 110. These conjunction elements 124 hereby interact with the coupling mount 113 for a durably and stiff coupling. The bar 120 may be inserted into the respective coupling mount 113 with the conjunction elements 124 ahead, whereas further the conjunction elements 124 may interact with the ring element 110 preferably in a latching manner, e.g., via a snap-in fit, and thus secure the bar 120. As can be seen inFigure 4 the coupling mount 113 may in particular allow for a latching connection between the respective bar 120 and the ring element 110, which configures the connection in particular stiff and steady, but also preferably reversible. The coupling mount 113 may hereby further comprise an actuator for decoupling the respective connected bar 120 from the ring element 110. -
Figures 12A, 12B and 12C show an exemplary embodiment of such a coupling process between a respective exemplary embodiment of a bar 120 and a respective exemplary embodiment of a ring element 110 of a mounting ring 100. Hereby it is shown that the bar 120 may be installed from a bottom side of the mounting ring 100 (wherein the bottom side hereby is the side of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, respectively the luminaire 1 visible for a user when installed in the recess 990). The coupling mount 113 may be formed as a duct, having locking elements. Hereby the bar 120 first enters the coupling mount 113 of the ring element 110 with its top side 122 - as shown inFigure 12A -, wherein the entire bar 120 subsequently passes through the coupling mount 113 - as shown inFigure 12B . With the conjunction elements 124 of the bar 120 reaching the bottom side of the coupling mount 113, and interlocking with the respective elements of the coupling mount 113, the coupling process is completed - as shown inFigure 12C . The bar 120 is then fixedly attached to the ring element 110 with the such configured coupling process and the interaction of the conjunction elements 124 and the coupling mount. This is applicable to the various implementations of the bar 120 having different heights h, h1, h2, h3. As further exemplary shown the coupling mount 113 may have a release element to release the connection between the bar 120 and the ring element 110, such that the connection is reversible. The guide rails 129 formed by the slim side faces of a respective bar 120 may further aid in the installation process of the respective bar 120. For removing a previously installed bar 120 the aforementioned steps are to be performed in reverse, such that the bar 120 is moved in a downward direction. - Depending on the size of the mounting ring 100 the number of coupling mounts 113 may be selected. As exemplary illustrated in
Figures 6A and 6B and the synopsis ofFigures 2A to 2E , a larger mounting ring 100 is equipped with a larger number of bars 120, and thus may consequently be equipped with a larger number of coupling mounts 113. However, it is also conceivable, that a smaller mounting ring 100 is equipped with a higher number of bars 120 (and thus possibly coupling mounts 113) if a particular heavy luminaire unit 20 (e.g., due to a heavy heat sink or other electronic equipment) is to be inserted in the respective mounting ring 100 - and vice versa. Likewise the respective bars 120 can be selected with regard to their height h, h1, h2, h3 and their respective possible range of their setting height of the coupling with the respective latch arm 200. Hence, a situational selection of the configuration of the respective mounting ring 100 is possible. - As also exemplary illustrated in
Figures 4 and8 the frame element 300 may provide an additional contact face for interaction with the lower side surface of a respective bar 120 further enhancing stability and stiffness of the connection between the bar 120 and the ring element 110. Hereby the conjunction elements 124 of the bar 120 may be provided with certain contact elements to not only provide a stiff coupling to the ring element 110 but also to further interact with the frame element 300. - As further illustrated in the different Figures the flange portion 112 may be available in different configuration. Hereby the flange portion 112 may be equipped with holes 119, and thus has a holey surface 112b, or as an alternative may be provided with a continuous and smooth surface 112a. While the smooth surface 112a is preferred in scenarios, where the flange portion 112 is visible for a user, the holey surface 112b is preferred in scenarios where the assembly structure 900, and in particular the bottom side 992 of the assembly structure 900 is to be plastered after installation of the mounting system 10, respectively of the recessed luminaire 1. Hence, the holes 119 may be plastering holes 119.
- Both configurations of the surface of the flange portion 112 are suitable for attaching a respective plate shaped circular frame element 300. The coupling between these components may hereby be performed via an adhesive coupling, a soldering coupling, a welding coupling, or preferred via an ultrasonic soldering coupling 500. The implementation of the coupling is hereby dependent on the respective materials of the components. As the components are preferably made out of plastic material, the ultrasonic soldering coupling 500 provides an utmost durable and stiff coupling.
- Hereby, as exemplary illustrated in
Figures 1 ,4 ,5 ,6A ,7 ,8, and 9 the frame element 300 is preferably mounted on the flange portion 112 having a holey structure 112b. This further benefits durability of the coupling. As shown inFigures 4 and8 this in particular applies with regard to an ultrasonic soldering coupling 500, as the holes 119 hereby provide a particular further beneficial conjunction between the flange portion 112 and the frame element 300. Hence, in a preferred embodiment of the frame element 300 being coupled via ultrasonic soldering 500 to the flange portion 112, a holey surface 112b is present. - The such configured mounting ring 100 with its flange portion 112 being coupled to an plate shaped circular frame element 300 that is arranged on a surface of the flange portion 112 opposite to the surface facing the bottom surface 992 of the assembly structure 900, thus comprises an enlarged flange portion 112x with the frame element 300 extending the flange portion 112. Hereby the frame element 300 then extends the flange portion 112 distally and thus forms a contact surface for interaction with the bottom surface 992.
- As exemplary illustrated in
Figures 6A and 6B the frame element 300 may be available in different sizes, wherein the sizes differ with regard to their diameter d, d1, d2, d3. Hereby it is conceivable that the frame element 300 may have an outer diameter d, d1, d2, d3 of approximately 100 millimetre (e.g. diameter d1), or 150 millimetre (e.g. diameter d2), or 200 millimetre (e.g. diameter d3). Further preferably the frame element 300 has an inner diameter essentially corresponding to the inner diameter of the ring element 110. The diameter d, d1, d2, d3 of the frame element 300 may hereby essentially correspond to the respective diameter d, d1, d2, d3 of the support element 400, as also exemplary illustrated inFigures 4, 5 ,6A, and 6B . While the frame element 300 is necessary in situations where the recess 990 is larger than the outer diameter of the flange portion 112, as otherwise a clamping at the bottom surface 992 is not possible, the necessity of the support element 400 is not always given. In particular, the necessity of the support element 400 being present is dependent on the configuration of the respective latch arm 200. Hereby implementations are conceivable where the latch arm 200 is long enough to reach the top surface 991 of the recess structure 900. However, in scenarios where the latch arm 200 is not long enough, the support element 400 is required to ensure a proper clamping of the mounting system 10, respectively the mounting ring 100, and thus of the recessed luminaire 1 inside the recess 990. - The flange portion 112 may have a width of approximately 5 to 10 millimetres, whereas this width is sufficient for providing a stable clamping contact to the bottom surface 992, and further is aesthetically pleasant for a user. Also with this width a sufficient surface is provided for a connection to a respective frame element 300.
- The inner portion of the mounting ring 100 (respectively of the mounting system 10) is for accommodating the luminaire unit 20, to form the recessed luminaire 1. Hereby, the inner diameter of the mounting ring 100, and in particular of the ring element 110 and further particular of the flange portion 112 is adapted to common diameters of such luminaire units 20. In particular the respective inner diameter may be approximately in a range of 50 to 250 millimetre, in particular in a range of 50 to 100 millimetre, or 100 to 150 millimetre, or 150 to 200 millimetre, or 200 to 250 millimetre; and preferably in a range of 55 to 95 millimetre, or 105 to 145 millimetre, or 155 to 195 millimetre, or 205 to 245 millimetre; and further preferably in a diameter of 50 millimetre, 55 millimetre, 60 millimetre, 65 millimetre, 90 millimetre, 95 millimetre 100 millimetre, or 105 millimetre, or 145 millimetre, or 150 millimetre, or 155 millimetre, or 195 millimetre, or 200 millimetre, or 205 millimetre, or 245 millimetre, or 250 millimetre.
-
Figure 10 shows the plate shaped circular frame element 300 that is possibly attached to the flange portion 112 of the mounting ring 100 - depending on the respective scenario. Hereby, the frame element 300 may comprise a number of connection portions 310 that are arranged proximal on the frame element 300 on the surface of the frame element 300 facing the ring element 110, wherein these connection portions 310 are positioned in proximity of the flange portion 112. In particular six connection portions 310 are provided, with little gaps between them. This is in particular shown inFigures 4 ,7 , and8 . Preferably, if such connection portions 310 are present, these are used for the ultrasonic soldering connection 500 between the flange portion 112 and the frame element 300. This provides a further stable and stiff connection. The ultrasonic soldering 500 is exemplary shown in the combined view ofFigures 7 ,8 and 9 showing the attachment of the frame element 300 to the flange portion 112, enlarging the flange portion 112x. - Moreover, the frame element 300 may be provided with a projecting edge 320 that is positioned distally and thus on an outer edge of the frame element 300. In particular the projecting edge 320 may form the outer face of the frame element 300 defining the outer diameter of the frame element 300. Hereby the edge 320 (preferably slightly) projects in installation direction D towards a respective bottom surface 992, such that the projecting edge 320 is in contact with the assembly structure 900 when the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, is installed within the recess 990. Hence, this may close off the bottom side of the recessed luminaire 1, respectively the mounting system 10, respectively the mounting ring 100, towards the assembly structure 900.
- As further shown in various figures, the frame element 300 may further be provided with braces 330 that extend in a radial direction of the frame element 300 from a proximal region towards a distal region thereof. In particular the braces 330 may extend from the connection portions 310 to the projecting edge 320. The braces 330 hereby provide additional stiffness to the frame element 300 and further their upper surfaces (that face the recess 990, respectively the bottom surface 992) may provide further contact faces of the frame element 300 towards the bottom surface 992, whereas preferably the braces 330 at least partially are in contact with the bottom surface 992 when the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10 is installed in the recess 990.
- In the shown embodiments the frame element 300 is circular and thus ring shaped, however also other frame shapes as rectangular, oval, or the like are conceivable. Hereby, the shape of the frame element 300 may be adapted to the shape of the respective recess 990.
- With regard to the ring-shaped support element 400 reference is in particular made to
Figures 4, 5 ,6A, and 6B . As previously mentioned, scenarios are conceivable where the ring-shaped support element 400 is required. Hereby this support element 400 forms a part of the mounting system 10. The ring-shaped support element 400 then shall be positioned on the top surface 991 of the assembly structure 900 of the recess 990, to enlarge a respective contact surface for the respective latch arms 200. Hereby the respective latch arms 200 are configured to interact with the ring-shaped support element 400 in the operating position O clamping the mounting system 10 inside the recess 990 with the frame element 300 of the mounting ring 100 interacting with the bottom surface 992. Furthermore, the ring-shaped support element 400 has an outer diameter larger than the recess 990 and further has an inner diameter smaller than the recess 990, providing a support surface for interaction with the respective latch arms 200. The inner diameter may be configured to allow an insertion of the mounting ring 100, respectively its bars 120 with the latch arms 200 preferably being attached thereto in a mounting position, in the installation direction D. - Hereby, the outer diameter d, d1, d2, d3 of the ring-shaped support element 400 may correspond approximately to the outer diameter d, d1, d2, d3 of the frame element 300, as previously mentioned. Also, the inner diameter of the ring-shaped support element 400 may correspond approximately to the inner diameter of the frame element 300.
- As further exemplary sketched in the
Figures 5 ,6A and 6B the ring-shaped support element 400 may comprise a hinge portion 410 that allows a folded shape of the ring-shaped support element 400 during installation of the ring-shaped support element 400 in the recess 990. Hence the support element 400 may be folded in a compact manner so that it can be inserted in the recess 990. As in the unfolded configuration the support element 400 is larger than the recess 990, this implementation provides a simple possibility for configuration. The hinge portion 410 may be realized via a material weakening, e.g., by a respective notch, or alternatively may be realized via an additional element that couples a respective two-parted support element 400. - As previously mentioned with regard to the interaction of the latch arms 200 and the top surface 991 it is likewise conceivable that the bars 120 are configured to position the portion of the respective latch arm 200 interacting with the ring-shaped support element 400 (i.e., the contact portion 210) in a certain distance spaced from the frame element 300 along the installation direction D. This distance essentially corresponds to the width w of the assembly structure 900, whereas in this scenario also the width of the support element 400 is taken into account. Preferably this distance is a distance range from approximately 1 to 25 millimetres, or from approximately 1 to 40 millimetres, or from approximately 1 to 100 millimetres, or from approximately 35 to 100 millimetres.
- Furthermore, it may be desired that the ring-shaped support element 400 is positioned centred in the recess 990, such that the mounting system 10 is then equally arranged centred in the recess 990.
- Components of the mounting ring 100, respectively the mounting system 10, may be produced via injection molding. This in particular applies to the ring element 110 and the respective bars 120.
- The recess 990 may be circular, but can of course be of other shapes as well. Depending on the dimensions of the recess 990 individual or combined implementations of the herein disclosed embodiments of the mounting ring 100, the mounting system 10 and the recessed luminaire 1 can be selected for application.
- As previously mentioned the assembly structure 900 may form a wall, a floor or a ceiling of a respective environment or room, whereas the assembly structure 900 has a respective recess 990 with a certain diameter. With the presented implementations of the recessed luminaire 1, the mounting system 10, and the mounting ring 100 improved insertion and installation thereof in the respective recess is provided. Hereby, different application scenarios of the such configured recessed luminaire 1 (and thus equally of the respective mounting ring 100 and mounting system 10) are conceivable. Furthermore, in particular scenarios where the recessed luminaire 1 is operated as a wall-washer, a downlight luminaire, a spotlight luminaire and the like are possible.
