Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur gekoppelten Herstellung von Polyurethanen. Durch die energetische Kombination der Polyurethansynthese mit vorhergehenden Prozessschritten kann Polyurethan mit verringertem CO2-Fußabdruck hergestellt werden.

Verfahren zur gekoppelten Herstellung von Polyurethanen mit verringertem CC>2-Fußabdruck
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur gekoppelten Herstellung von Polyurethanen mit verringertem CC>2-Fußabdruck zur Verwendung in einem Kraftfahrzeug.
Zur Verbesserung der Gesamt-CO2-Bilanz von Fahrzeugen ist der Einsatz von nachwachsenden Rohstoffen ein vielversprechender Stellhebel. Nachhaltige Polymerlösungen besitzen in diesem Zuge eine immer stärkere Bedeutung in der Automobilindustrie.
Im Wesentlichen können folgende Strategien genannt werden: Polymere auf Grundlage nachwachsender Rohstoffe sowie Polymere, die als Rezyklatkunststoffe wiedergewonnen werden
Polymere auf Grundlage nachwachsender Rohstoffe, also auf Grundlage von biobasierten Polymeren, sind bekannt, um den CO2-Fußabdruck über den gesamten Produktlebenszyklus im Vergleich zur petrochemischen Alternative gering zu halten. Gemäß der zweiten Alternative werden Polymere aus Rezyklatprozessen eingesetzt, um den CO2-Fußabdruck durch einen geschlossenen Werkstoffkreislauf gering zu halten.
Diese beiden Polymerklassen sind jedoch nicht für den Einsatz in Anwendungen mit anspruchsvollen Anforderungen geeignet, da sowohl bei den biobasierten Ansätzen als auch bei den Rezyklatkunststoffen einerseits durch natürliche Syntheseprozesse und andererseits durch Degradationseffekte im Recyclingprozess keine Steuerung des Molekulargewichtes und damit der physikalischen, mechanischen und chemischen Eigenschaften möglich ist.
Der Erfindung liegt nun die Aufgabe zugrunde, Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polymeren bereitzustellen, welche nachhaltig sind und ein vorteilhaftes Eigenschaftenprofil aufweisen.
Gelöst wird die Aufgabe durch ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan umfassend:
(1) in einem ersten Verfahrensschritt die Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2;
(2) in einem zweiten Verfahrensschritt die Herstellung einer Diolverbindung (Diolmonomers) aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2; (3) in einem dritten Verfahrensschritt die Polykondensation der Diolverbindung zur Bildung von Polyurethan; wobei der dritte Verfahrensschritt energetisch mit dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt und/oder dem ersten Verfahrensschritt gekoppelt ist.
Die durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren gewonnenen Polymere auf Basis von atmosphärisch gebundenem CO2 besitzen vorteilhafterweise ein definiertes Molekulargewicht und eine definierte Molekulargewichtsverteilung. Hierdurch kann ein für die jeweilige Anwendung spezifisches Eigenschaftsprofil erzeugt werden, welches sich chemisch nicht von petrochemischen Kunststoffansätzen unterscheidet, allerdings gegenüber petrochemischen Polymerlösungen eine negative CC>2-Bilanz aufweist.
Insgesamt lassen sich durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren also thermoplastische Polymere auf Basis von gebundenem CO2 darstellen, welche neben den Eigenschaften der leichten Verarbeitbarkeit, in Form von Umformungsprozessen, auch ein für die jeweilige Anwendung spezifisches Eigenschaftsprofil aufweisen und eine verbesserte CO2 Bilanz über den Produktlebenszyklus aufweisen.
Die US 2020/0291901 A1 und WO 2019/161114 A1 beschreiben Möglichkeiten zur Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2. Dieses CO2 kann zu Synthesezwecken verwendet werden.
Die Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2 für Synthesezwecke ist energieaufwändig. Für die Gewinnung einer Tonne CO2 werden typischerweise große Mengen an elektrischer Energie sowie thermischer Energie benötigt.
Auch der zweite Schritt, die Herstellung einer Diolverbindung (insbesondere eines polymerisierbaren Diolmonomers) aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2, läuft endergonisch ab und erfordert die Zufuhr von Energie.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren sieht nun vorteilhaft vor, die thermodynamische Triebkraft der Polyurethanbildung mit dem ersten und/oder dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt, also der Herstellung der Diolverbindung, und/oder besonders bevorzugt mit der Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2 zu koppeln.
Die energetische Kopplung der Schritte kann entweder direkt durch Zufuhr der im dritten Schritt erzeugten Wärmeenergie und/oder durch Umwandlung in andere Energieformen, insbesondere elektrische Energie, erfolgen. Insbesondere kann die energetische Kopplung direkt durch Zufuhr der im dritten Schritt erzeugten Wärmeenergie im Sinne einer thermischen Kopplung der Schritte durch einen Verbundprozess unter Wärmetausch erfolgen. Diese Form der Kopplung ist bevorzugt, da die thermische Energie unmittelbar zur Gewinnung des CO2 aus der Luft genutzt werden kann.
Alternativ ist eine Umwandlung in andere Energieformen, insbesondere elektrische Energie, möglich. Die Umwandlung von thermischer Energie in elektrische Energie kann beispielsweise durch Turbinen oder thermoelektrische Generatoren erfolgen. Die thermische Energie, die im dritten Verfahrensschritt gewonnen wurde, kann zunächst in elektrische Energie umgewandelt werden und anschließend für die elektrochemische Synthese des Diols und/oder des Isocyanats verwendet werden oder aber insbesondere auch für die Gewinnung des CO2.
Gemäß einer ganz besonders bevorzugten Ausführungsform erfolgt die energetische Kopplung sowohl durch direkte thermische Kopplung als auch mittels Umwandlung in elektrische Energie. Hierdurch kann ganz besonders bevorzugt das DAC-Verfahren (Direct Air Capture), welches sowohl thermische als auch elektrische Energie benötigt, im Sinne eines optimalen Verbundprozesses realisiert werden.
Das Merkmal, dass der dritte Verfahrensschritt energetisch mit dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt und/oder dem ersten Verfahrensschritt gekoppelt ist, stellt nun einen besonderen Vorteil des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens dar. Auf diese Weise kann eine Polymerherstellung auf Grundlage des in der Atmosphäre enthaltenen CO2 erfolgen, ohne dass diese Vorteile durch den erhöhten energetischen Aufwand, welcher sich im ersten Verfahrensschritt für die Gewinnung des atmosphärischen CO2 und/oder im zweiten Verfahrensschritt für die Synthese der Diolverbindung ergibt, wieder aufgehoben werden.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei der erste Verfahrensschritt die Entnahme/Extraktion von CO2 aus Umgebungsluft umfasst.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ferner ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei der erste Verfahrensschritt als „Direct Air Capture Verfahren“ ausgebildet ist.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ferner ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei die Diolverbindung gemäß dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt wenigstens eine Verbindung ausgewählt aus 2,3-Furandiol, Propylenglykol und/oder Monoethylenglykol umfasst, wobei 2,3-Furandiol bevorzugt ist.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ferner ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei die Herstellung der Diolverbindung aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2 bevorzugt mittels elektrochemisch durchgeführter Reduktion erfolgt.
Da die energetische Kopplung der Schritte durch Umwandlung der im dritten Schritt erzeugten Wärmenergie in elektrische Energie erfolgen kann, ist eine elektrochemische Reaktionsführung im zweiten Schritt vorteilhaft, da dies eine prozesseffiziente energetische Kopplung der Prozesse ermöglicht.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ferner ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei die Herstellung der Diolverbindung aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2 unter Verwendung eines Katalysators, bevorzugt eines Übergangsmetallkatalysators, besonders bevorzugt eines Nickelkatalysators, durchgeführt wird.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ferner ein Verfahren beschrieben, wobei das erhaltene Polyurethan als Material in ein Kraftfahrzeug eingearbeitet wird.
Im Folgenden wird der erste Verfahrensschritt näher beschrieben, welcher sich auf die Gewinnung von CO2 aus der Atmosphäre bezieht:
Dieser Schritt umfasst die Extraktion von Kohlenstoffdioxid aus der Atmosphäre. Dieser Prozesszyklus unterteilt sich bevorzugt in die Teilschritte Sorption und Desortpion.
Hierzu wird zunächst die Umgebungsluft mit dem daraus resultierenden CO2-Gehalt durch eine Filtereinheit geleitet und das Kohlenstoffdioxid mithilfe von geeigneten Sorptionsmitteln von der Umgebungsluft abgetrennt.
Anschließend erfolgt eine thermische Desorption. Diese wird bevorzugt bei 70 °C bis 180 °C durchgeführt und dient zur Abtrennung des gebundenen Kohlenstoffdioxids von dem Sorbtionsmittel.
Der hier beschriebene erste Verfahrensschritt zur Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2 benötigt Energie. Bei der energetischen Betrachtung werden beide Prozessschritte des Sorptionszyklus betrachtet. Für die Sorption einer Tonne CO2 werden typischerweise mehrere hundert kWh elektrische Energie und oftmals ein Vielfaches an thermischer Energie für die Extraktion benötigt.
Insbesondere wird bei dem beschriebenen Prozess das „Direct Air Capture“(DAC)-Verfahren angewendet. Hierzu wird zunächst die Umgebungsluft, bevorzugt mit 400 ppm CO2, durch eine Filtereinheit der DAC-Anlage geleitet und das Kohlenstoffdioxid mithilfe von geeigneten Sorbentmaterialien von der Umgebungsluft abgetrennt. Hierbei können sowohl physisorbierende als auch chemisorbierende Prozesse wirken, welche das Kohlenstoffdioxid aus der Umgebungsluft abtrennen. Anschließend erfolgt eine thermische Desorption bei bevorzugt 100 °C zur Abtrennung des gebundenen Kohlenstoffdioxids aus dem Sorbenten. Bei der energietechnischen Betrachtung werden beide Prozessschritte des Sorptionszyklus betrachtet.
Für die Sorption einer Tonne CO2 werden typischerweise 350 kWh elektrische Energie sowie 1.720 - 3.350 kWh thermische Energie für die Prozessschritte benötigt. Insbesondere kann die hierfür erforderliche elektrische Energie bevorzugt durch energetische Kopplung mit dem dritten Verfahrensschritt erhalten werden.
In Bezug auf die thermische Energie kann die energetische Kopplung direkt durch Zufuhr der im dritten Schritt erzeugten Wärmeenergie im Sinne einer thermischen Kopplung der Schritte durch einen Verbundprozess unter Wärmetausch erfolgen. Diese Form der Kopplung ist vorteilhaft, da die thermische Energie unmittelbar zur Gewinnung des CO2 aus der Luft genutzt werden kann. Die elektrische Energie kann durch teilweise Umwandlung der thermischen Energie erfolgen. Die thermische Energie, die im dritten Verfahrensschritt gewonnen wurde, kann zunächst in elektrische Energie umgewandelt werden und anschließend dazu dienen, die für im Sorptionsprozess erforderliche elektrische Energie bereitzustellen. In dieser Hinsicht stellt das Verfahren einen optimalen Verbundprozess dar.
Gemäß einer ganz bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird das Verfahren beschrieben, wobei Polyethylenimin als Sorbentmaterial im DAC-Verfahren verwendet wird. Es wurde gefunden, dass Polyethylenimin passgenaue Wärmeleitfähigkeitseigenschaften für die beschriebene energetische Kopplung der Verfahrensschritte aufweist.
Das abgetrennte Kohlenstoffdioxid weist bevorzugt eine Reinheit von > 98 % auf und wird für die Monomersynthese im zweiten Verfahrensschritt verwendet. Im Folgenden wird der zweite Verfahrensschritt beschrieben, welcher sich auf die Monomersynthese bezieht.
Die Monomere umfassen zwei Hydroxidgruppen. Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform umfasst das Monomer wenigstens eins ausgewählt aus 2,3-Furandiol, Propylenglykol und/oder Monoethylenglykol.
Die Herstellung der Ausgangsmaterialien erfolgt unter milden Reaktionsbedingungen und Spannungen < 20 mV. 2,3-Furandiol können mit einem analogen katalytischen Prozess ebenfalls Propylenglykol und Monoethylenglykol synthetisiert werden.
Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan beschrieben, wobei in einem zweiten Verfahrensschritt eine Diolverbindung, beispielsweise 2,3-Furandiol, durch Reduktion von CO2 erhalten wird. Damit wird also das 2,3- Furandiol vorteilhafterweise aus einer nicht-fossilen Kohlenstoffquelle hergestellt.
Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan beschrieben, wobei das CO2 atmosphärisches CO2 ist. Die beschriebenen thermoplastischen Polymere weisen daher vorteilhaft eine über den Produktlebenszyklus verminderte oder sogar negative CO2-Bilanz auf. Das beschriebene Verfahren trägt damit zur Verbesserung der Gesamt-CO2-Bilanz von Fahrzeugen bei. Die erhaltenen Polymere sind nachhaltige Polymere aus dem Biosphärenkreislauf, welche eine immer stärkere Bedeutung in der Automobilindustrie erhalten. Dies wird durch das gemäß dieser Ausführungsform beschriebene Polymer erreicht.
Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan beschrieben, wobei der zweite Verfahrensschritt (Monomersynthese) elektrochemisch erfolgt.
Insbesondere kann die hierfür erforderliche elektrische Energie bevorzugt durch energetische Kopplung mit dem dritten Verfahrensschritt erhalten werden.
Die elektrochemische Reduktion von Kohlendioxid unter Verwendung von Wasser als Wasserstoffquelle kann daher eine nachhaltige Produktion der Polymere aus erneuerbaren Energiequellen ermöglichen. Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan beschrieben, wobei der zweite Verfahrensschritt unter Verwendung eines Katalysators durchgeführt wird. Insgesamt kann der Reaktionsverlauf mittels einer Übergangsmetallkatalyse in vorteilhafter Weise erheblich beschleunigt werden. Hierbei ist von einer heterogenen katalytischen Wirkungsweise des Übergangsmetalls auszugehen.
Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan beschrieben, wobei der zweite Verfahrensschritt ferner umfasst:
(a) Platzieren einer katalysatorbeschichteten Kathode in einem Elektrolyten zusammen mit einer Anode;
(b) Anbringen der Anode und der Kathode in leitenden Kontakt mit einer externen Stromquelle;
(c) Bereitstellen einer Kohlendioxidquelle für die Kathode; und
(d) Verwenden der externen Elektrizitätsquelle, um eine Elektrolysereaktion an der Kathode anzutreiben, in der Kohlenwasserstoffprodukte, Produkte oder beides aus dem Kohlendioxid erzeugt werden. Es wird auf die US 10,676,833 B2 verwiesen.
Im Folgenden wird der dritte Verfahrensschritt beschrieben, welcher sich auf die Polymersynthese bezieht.
Da die synthetisierten Monomerprodukte zwei Hydroxidgruppen umfassen, können diese im dritten Verfahrensschritt zur Synthese von Polyurethanen genutzt werden.
Die Wahl der entsprechenden Monomerstruktur bestimmt hierbei signifikant die werkstofflichen Eigenschaften des Polyurethans. Das Monoethylenglykol führt zu einem weichen Polymer mit einer niedrigen Glasübergangstemperatur, wohingegen das 2,3-Furandiol ein hartes, sprödes Material mit einer hohen Glasübergangstemperatur erzeugt.
Das Propylenglykol befindet sich in den zuvor beschriebenen Eigenschaftsprofilen zwischen dem Monoethylenglykol und dem 2,3-Furandiol.
Hierzu werden die Diolstrukturen mithilfe einer Polykondensationsreaktion zu den benötigten Polyolen vernetzt und dienen als Ausgangsmaterial für die Polymersynthese. Folgend werden die Monomere aufgrund der beschriebenen Endgruppen unabhängig von der chemischen Struktur als Polyole bezeichnet. Aus den zuvor synthetisierten Polyolen und Diisocyanaten werden im Anschluss über Polyadditionsreaktionen und der Bildung einer Urethangruppe die Polyurethanstrukturen und das polymere Netzwerk aufgebaut. Die Synthese der Polyurethanbildung verläuft stark exotherm (Temperatur in der Regel deutlich oberhalb 100 °C). Diese Reaktionswärme wird in der beschriebenen Prozesskette für die Sorption, Desorption sowie Monomersynthese genutzt.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird das Verfahren beschrieben, wobei in einem weiteren Verfahrensschritt die Herstellung einer Isocyanatverbindung unter Reduktion des im ersten Verfahrensschritt gewonnenen CO2 erfolgt. Gemäß einer weiter bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird das Verfahren beschrieben, wobei die Reduktion des atmosphärisch gewonnenen CO2 übergangsmetallkatalysiert oder elektrochemisch erfolgt.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird das Verfahren beschrieben, wobei der dritte Verfahrensschritt energetisch mit dem weiteren Verfahrensschritt, der die Herstellung der Isocyanatverbindung umfasst, gekoppelt ist.
Gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird das Verfahren beschrieben, wobei die Isocyanatverbindung im dritten Verfahrensschritt zur Darstellung des Polyurethans verwendet wird.
Insgesamt beschreibt die Erfindung damit ein Verfahren zur Polyurethanherstellung, wobei das CO2 atmosphärisches CO2 ist. Ob das Polyurethan unter Einsatz von atmosphärischem CO2 erhalten worden ist, lässt sich analytisch charakterisieren. Insbesondere bei der Isotopenmessung wird das Verhältnis zweier verschiedener Typen von Kohlenstoffatomen bestimmt, die in CO2-Molekülen auftreten können: 13C und 12C, wobei die Zahl die Masse des Atoms charakterisiert. Fossile Brennstoffe beispielsweise zeichnen sich durch ein geringes Verhältnis zwischen 13C und 12C aus. Atmosphärisches CO2 weist hingegen ein höheres Verhältnis zwischen 13C und 12C auf. Die 13C- und 12C-lsotopenverteilung stellt damit also eine Art Fingerabdruck für die Bildung des Produkts aus atmosphärischem CO2 dar.
Gemäß einem weiteren Aspekt der Erfindung wird die Verwendung von Polyurethan in einem Kraftfahrzeug beschrieben.
Weitere bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen der Erfindung ergeben sich aus den übrigen, in den Unteransprüchen genannten Merkmalen.
Die verschiedenen in dieser Anmeldung genannten Ausführungsformen der Erfindung sind, sofern im Einzelfall nicht anders ausgeführt, mit Vorteil miteinander kombinierbar. Die Erfindung wird nachfolgend in Ausführungsbeispielen anhand der zugehörigen Zeichnungen erläutert. Es zeigen:
Figur 1a einen zweiten Verfahrensschritt zur Bildung von Diolverbindungen, insbesondere 2,3-Furandiol, mittels elektrochemischer Reduktion von CO2,
Figur 1b einen nebengeordneten zweiten Verfahrensschritt zur Bildung von Isocyanat aus Ges und
Figur 2 einen dritten Verfahrensschritt zur Bildung von Polyurethanen, durch Polymerisationsreaktion der zu Polyolen kondensierten Diolverbindungen mit Diisocyanaten.
Figur 1a zeigt, wie nach dem Abtrennen des CO2 im ersten Verfahrensschritt nun in einem zweiten Verfahrensschritt eine Diolverbindung, hier 2,3-Furandiol, durch elektrochemische Reduktion des atmosphärischen CO2 erhalten wird.
Es wird mechanistisch angenommen, dass die CC>2-Reduktion mittels Katalyse über den dargestellten Mechanismus erfolgt. Im Teilschritt 1 wird CO2 in eine Oberflächenhydridbindung eingefügt, um eine adsorbierte Formiatspezies zu erzeugen. Es wird angenommen, dass dies der potenzialbestimmende Schritt (PDS) ist.
Im Teilschritt 2 wird das absorbierte Formiat profaniert und von einem zweiten Hydrid angegriffen. Dieses bildet nach Abspaltung von Hydroxid Formaldehyd. Formaldehyd wird nicht nachgewiesen, da das gebildete Formaldehyd hochreaktiv ist.
Es werden sodann zwei aufeinanderfolgende, thermodynamisch bevorzugte Aldehydkondensationsreaktionen postuliert, um Glycerinaldehyd zu erzeugen. Die Keto-Enol- Tautomerisierung weist voraussichtlich die höchste Energiebarriere auf und erklärt somit die Akkumulation des Methylglyoxal-Vorläufers. Diesem Schritt folgt eine weitere Kondensation von Aldehyd mit Formaldehyd am Katalysator. Die Cyclisierung bildet durch intramolekulare Kondensation eines Alkohols und eines Aldehyds den stabilen fünfgliedrigen Ring. Die Hydridabstraktion, die Reaktion zur Bildung des Endprodukts, wird durch die Stabilität des aromatischen Furanrings angetrieben. Figur 1b zeigt einen nebengeordneten Verfahrensschritt zur Bildung von Isocyanat aus CO2. Dieser Schritt wird hier als „nebengeordneter zweiter Verfahrensschritt“ bezeichnet, da dieser Schritt, wie der in der Figur 1a gezeigte Reaktionsschritt, nach dem ersten Verfahrensschritt, also der Gewinnung von CC^ aus der Atmosphäre, aber noch vor dem dritten Verfahrensschritt, also der Polyurethanbildung, stattfindet. Dieser Schritt kann gleichzeitig, vor oder nach dem Schritt der Diolsynthese erfolgen.
Wie bei dem in der Figur 1a gezeigten Reaktionsschritt zur Diolherstellung wird auch bei der Isocyanatsynthese in Figur 1b das aus der Atmosphäre gewonnene CO2 genutzt.
Die Herstellung des Formaldehyds aus atmosphärischen CO2 wird initiiert durch eine Reduktion von atmosphärischem Kohlenstoffdioxid mithilfe von Wasserstoff zu einem intermediären Kohlenstoffmonooxid, welches durch weitere Reduktionsschritte mit Wasserstoff das Methanol ausbildet. Diese Reaktion kann übergangsmetallkatalysiert sowie direkt elektrochemisch mit geeigneten Elektrokatalysatoren erfolgen, ohne ein intermediäres Kohlenstoffdioxid auszubilden. Geeignete Katalysatoren umfassen hierbei Ni, Fe, Ag, sowie Cu-basierte Phosphorverbindungen. Eine nachgeschaltete Oxidation der Verbindung resultiert im Formaldehyd.
Die Herstellung des Isocyanats erfolgt initial mithilfe der Umsetzung von Anilin mit dem CO2- basierten Formaldehyd in saurem Medium zum Diaminophenylmethan. Dieses wird anschließend mithilfe von Phosgen zum Diphenylmethan-4,4'-diisocyanat umgesetzt.
Figur 2 zeigt die anschließende Polyurethanbildung. In diesem dritten Verfahrensschritt zur Bildung von Polyurethanen wird eine Polymerisationsreaktion der im zweiten Schritt erzeugten Diolverbindungen mit Diisocyanaten durchgeführt. Hierbei werden zunächst entsprechende Polyole gebildet, welche sodann mit den Diisocyanaten reagieren. Neben dem 2,3-Furandiol, wie dies in Figur 1a gezeigt ist, können mit einem analogen katalytischen Prozess ebenfalls Propylenglykol und Monoethylenglykol synthetisiert werden. Die synthetisierten Monomerprodukte beinhalten alle zwei Hydroxidgruppen, welche in dem in Figur 2 gezeigten Prozessschritt zur Synthese von Polyurethanen genutzt werden können. Die Wahl der entsprechenden Monomerstruktur bestimmt hierbei signifikant die werkstofflichen Eigenschaften des Polyurethans. Das Monoethylenglykol führt zu einem weichen Polymer mit einer niedrigen Glasübergangstemperatur wohingegen das 2,3-Furandiol ein hartes, sprödes Material mit einer hohen Glasübergangstemperatur erzeugt. Das Propylenglykol befindet sich in den zuvor beschriebenen Eigenschaftsprofilen zwischen dem Monoethylenglykol und dem 2,3-Furandiol. Hierzu werden die Diolstrukturen mithilfe einer Polykondensationsreaktion zu den benötigten Polyolen vernetzt und dienen als Ausgangsmaterial für die Polymersynthese.
Die Polymerisation der Polyole und Isocyanate erfolgt als eine Polykondensation unter relativ milden Reaktionsbedingungen. Aus den zuvor synthetisierten Polyolen und Diisocyanaten werden über Polyadditionsreaktionen und der Bildung einer Urethangruppe die Polyurethanstrukturen und das polymere Netzwerk aufgebaut. Hierbei verläuft die Polyurethanbildung stufenweise, wobei zunächst aus einem Diol/Polyol und einem Diisocyanat ein bifunktionelles Molekül mit einer Isocyanatgruppe sowie eine Hydroxidgruppe gebildet wird. In weiteren Syntheseschritten werden aus den bifunktionellen Molekülstrukturen mit weiteren Monomeren Oligomere Strukturen aufgebaut. Analog zu den klassischen Polyurethansystemen erfolgt eine Vernetzung der Polymerketten beispielsweise unter der Bildung von Allophanatstrukturen aus einer Reaktion eines Isocyanats mit einer Urethan-Gruppe, mit mehrfachen Aminen sowie über Trimerisierungsreaktionen von Isocyanatstrukturen zu Isocyanuraten. Die Synthese der Polyurethanbildung verläuft stark exotherm mit einer Temperatur, welche in der Regel deutlich oberhalb 100°C liegt. Diese Reaktionswärme wird in der beschriebenen Prozesskette für die Sorption, Desorption sowie Monomersynthese aus dem ersten Verfahrensschritt und/oder den zweiten Verfahrensschritten im Sinne einer energetischen Kopplung genutzt.
Ob das Polyurethan unter Einsatz von atmosphärischem CO2, gemäß den Verfahrensschritten 1 und 2, erhalten worden ist, lässt sich analytisch charakterisieren mittels Isotopenmessung. Dabei wird das Verhältnis zweier verschiedener Typen von Kohlenstoffatomen bestimmt, die in CO2- Molekülen auftreten können: 13C und 12C, wobei der Index die Masse des Atoms charakterisiert. Atmosphärisches CO2 weist ein höheres Verhältnis zwischen 13C und 12C auf, womit die 13C- und 12C-lsotopenverteilung eine Art Fingerabdruck für die Bildung des Produkts aus atmosphärischem CO2 darstellt.

Claims

Patentansprüche
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan umfassend: in einem ersten Verfahrensschritt die Gewinnung von atmosphärischem CO2; in einem zweiten Verfahrensschritt die Herstellung einer Diolverbindung aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2; in einem dritten Verfahrensschritt die Polykondensation der Diolverbindung zur Bildung von Polyurethan; wobei der dritte Verfahrensschritt energetisch mit dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt und/oder dem ersten Verfahrensschritt gekoppelt ist.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei der erste Verfahrensschritt die Sorption und Desorption des atmosphärischen CO2 umfasst.
3. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei der erste Verfahrensschritt als Direct Air Capture-Verfahren ausgebildet ist.
4. Verfahren gemäß dem vorhergehenden Anspruch, wobei Polyethylenimin als Sorbentmaterial verwendet wird.
5. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei die Diolverbindung gemäß dem zweiten Verfahrensschritt wenigstens eine Verbindung ausgewählt aus 2,3- Furandiol, Propylenglykol und/oder Monoethylenglykol umfasst.
6. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Herstellung der Diolverbindung aus dem gewonnenen atmosphärischen CO2 mittels elektrochemisch durchgeführter Reduktion erfolgt.
7. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass in einem weiteren Verfahrensschritt die Herstellung einer Isocyanatverbindung unter Reduktion des im ersten Verfahrensschritt gewonnenen CO2 erfolgt.
8. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß dem vorhergehenden Anspruch, wobei der dritte Verfahrensschritt energetisch mit dem weiteren Verfahrensschritt, der die Herstellung der Isocyanatverbindung umfasst, gekoppelt ist.
9. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß den beiden vorhergehenden Ansprüchen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Isocyanatverbindung im dritten Verfahrensschritt zur Darstellung des Polyurethans verwendet wird.
10. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß den vorhergehenden Ansprüchen 7 bis 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reduktion des atmosphärisch gewonnenen CO2 übergangsmetallkatalysiert erfolgt.
11. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyurethan gemäß den vorhergehenden Ansprüchen 7 bis 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reduktion des atmosphärisch gewonnenen CO2 elektrochemisch erfolgt.
12. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei das erhaltene Polyurethan als Material in ein Kraftfahrzeug eingearbeitet wird.
