Durch verschiedene Faktoren wie beispielsweise starke Nutzung, Witterungseinflüsse und längerfristigen Verschleiß können elektrische Toranlagen eine hohe Fehleranfälligkeit aufweisen. Daraus können entsprechend hohe Ausfallrisiken resultieren, die wiederum zu hohen Instandhaltungskosten beispielsweise durch einen hohen Personalbedarf für die Wartung und Störungsbehebung vor Ort führen können. Zudem können erhebliche Energieverluste durch unnötig lange Offenstandzeiten sowie Sicherheitsrisiken durch unverschlossene Toranlagen entstehen.
