Abstract

Description

The invention relates to a brush comprising a handle and a bristle holder with recesses in which bristles grouped together in bundles are inserted.

The bristle holders of such brushes can have different shapes, for example rectangular or round bristle holders are common. To produce the brushes, bristles grouped together in bundles are pressed into holes in the bristle holder. If you look at a brush made in this way from the side, you can clearly see the individual bundles of bristles. The visual appearance of the bristles grouped together in bundles is reminiscent of a doll's head with hair and is therefore considered unsatisfactory. There is therefore a need for a brush in which the individual bundles of bristles cannot be seen.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a brush in which individual bundles of bristles are not visible.

To achieve this object, in a brush of the type mentioned at the outset, the invention provides that the area of a recess is at least 12 mm ² , wherein adjacent recesses are separated by walls whose wall thickness is 0.6 to 0.9 mm, wherein the recesses arranged along the circumference of the bristle holder have a straight or a convex outer side.

The invention is based on the finding that an appealing visual appearance of a brush can only be achieved if several modifications are made.

According to a first feature of the invention, the area of a recess is at least 12 mm ² . If a recess is smaller than 12 mm ² , the ratio of the areas of the walls separating adjacent recesses and the areas of the recesses is too large, giving the impression that the recesses are not sufficiently filled with bristles. Extensive testing by the applicant has shown that a recess must have a minimum area of 12 mm ² in order to avoid the impression of separate bundles of bristles.

According to a second feature of the invention, adjacent recesses are separated by walls whose wall thickness is 0.6 to 0.9 mm. With walls with a smaller wall thickness, the problem is that the walls can be deformed when the bristles are pressed in, so that the bristles do not have the desired alignment in the lengthwise direction of the brush. With walls with a greater wall thickness, the problem is that adjacent recesses are then perceived as separate recesses and the previously mentioned "doll's head effect" occurs. Extensive tests have shown that only the aforementioned range of 0.6 to 0.9 mm for the wall thickness results in a brush with an acceptable appearance.

According to a third feature of the invention, the recesses arranged along the circumference of the bristle holder have a straight or convex outer side. This means that there are no round recesses on the outer side, since then the bundles of bristles would be visible. A brush according to the invention not only has an attractive visual appearance, but the paint it picks up is also evenly distributed in the bristles, which means that good results can be achieved when painting.

In the brush according to the invention, it is preferred that a recess is designed as a rectangle, square, rhombus, triangle, trapezoid or a combination thereof. However, a circular recess is at most located inside the bristle holder, ie not on the outer circumference. If a recess how one of the geometric bodies mentioned is shaped, recesses filled with bristles arranged next to each other are not recognized as separate areas, but rather the bristles of adjacent recesses form a continuous surface

In the brush according to the invention, it can be provided that the thickness of the bristle holder is preferably 20 mm or more, wherein recesses not arranged along the circumference of the bristle holder are either round and/or separated by walls whose wall thickness is more than 0.9 mm and/or are not provided with bristles or that surfaces not arranged along the circumference of the bristle holder have no recesses.

A further development of the invention provides that the recesses arranged along the circumference of the bristle holder have three to five sides. However, there are no circular recesses on the circumference of the bristle holder.

Preferably, the length of one side of a recess is at least 3 mm. This ensures that one side of a recess has a minimum length of 3 mm. Accordingly, the number of walls required is also reduced and bristles grouped together in bundles are prevented from being recognized as separate bundles.

According to the invention, the outside of the bristle holder is formed from several adjacent recesses, which have a straight side at least on their outside. Such a recess could also have a differently shaped side on its inside, for example a curved side. It is important, however, that the side of the recess of the bristle holder on the outside is straight. This ensures that all outer edges of the recesses are straight in the circumferential direction, which creates the desired impression of a homogeneous surface consisting of bristles.

Preferably, the bristle holder of the brush according to the invention has four or more rows provided with recesses. With such a structure, a dense structure of the bristles results on all sides of the brush.

In this context, it can also be provided that individual recesses that are not arranged on an outer side of the bristle holder do not have any bristles. In certain cases, inserting bristles grouped together in bundles into all recesses would lead to an increased bristle density. Therefore, individual recesses inside the bristle holder can remain empty without the empty recesses being visible when the brush is viewed from the side.

A preferred development of the invention provides that an extended front edge of the bristle holder or a sleeve surrounding the bristle holder projects beyond the recesses in the longitudinal direction of the brush, preferably 3 to 4 mm.

Fig.1 is a top view showing a bristle holder 1 of a brush. The handle of the brush is in Fig.1 and the other drawings. It can be seen there that the bristle holder 1 has a large number of individual recesses 2 which are arranged in several parallel rows. The bristle holder 1 is approximately rectangular. In the circumferential direction, the bristle holder 1 has two straight parallel outer edges and two convex parallel outer edges. All recesses have in common that their area is at least 12 mm ² . Most recesses 2 are rectangular, they have a length of 4 mm and a width of 3 mm. These recesses 2 therefore have four sides. Between two adjacent recesses 2 there is a wall 3, the wall thickness of which in this embodiment is 0.7 mm. In general, the wall thickness between two adjacent recesses can be 0.6 to 0.9 mm. The recesses 4 in the area of the two convex sections are not rectangular, but trapezoidal. They each have two parallel sides that are arranged parallel to the parallel outer edges of the bristle holder 1. The recesses 4 in the area of the two convex sections have an outer side 5 that is either straight or slightly convexly curved. In The bristle holder 1 contains bundled bristles, which are however in Fig.1 are not shown. The combination of the minimum size of the area of a recess of 12 mm ² , the wall thickness of 0.7 mm and the recesses 2, 4 each with four sides means that the individual bundles of bristles are not perceptible, rather all of the bristles form an almost homogeneous surface. The bristle holder 1 shown has a width of 20 mm.

In the Fig.2 The bristle holder 6 shown has a hexagonal basic shape and comprises a total of four rows of recesses 7, each of which is designed as a parallelogram. Accordingly, each recess 7 has two pairs of parallel sides. In accordance with the first embodiment, the area of each recess 7 is 12 mm ² , the wall thickness of the walls between two adjacent recesses 7 is 0.8 mm between all recesses. In Fig.2 one can see that the recesses 7 are arranged in a total of four rows, whereby the recesses 7 are arranged symmetrically to both a horizontal axis and a vertical axis. In the middle of the bristle holder 6 there are a total of four recesses 7 formed as diamonds 8. All four sides of the recesses formed as diamonds 8 are the same length.

Fig.3 shows a bristle holder 9 that is shaped like a diamond. The bristle holder 9 is provided with identical recesses 10, which are also diamonds. In this embodiment, the wall thickness between adjacent recesses 10 is 0.9 mm. The area of an individual recess is 12 mm ² . The size of a recess 10 and the wall thickness between adjacent recesses 10 mean that the individual bundles of bristles that are inserted into the bristle holder 9 cannot be recognized as such. Instead, the impression is created of an almost homogeneous surface in which the individual bundles cannot be distinguished.

Fig.4 shows another embodiment of a bristle holder 11, which has a triangular shape. Most of the recesses 12 have the shape of a diamond. Fig.4 On the lower edge of the bristle holder 11 there are recesses 13 with five sides, two sides being parallel to the sides of diamond-shaped recesses 12, the three remaining sides being arranged perpendicular to each other. Accordingly, there are also recesses 13 on the Fig.4 lower edge of the bristle holder 11 has several recesses 13 arranged next to one another at a distance from one another, so that the same visual impression is obtained from all sides, ie on each side the bristles inserted into the recesses 12, 13 form a practically homogeneous surface, so that the individual bundles of bristles are not visible. In the embodiment shown, both the recesses 12 and the recesses 13 have an area of 12 mm ² . The wall thickness between adjacent recesses 12, 13 is 0.6 mm.

Fig.5 shows an embodiment of a bristle holder 14 that is circular. The recesses 15 inside the bristle holder 14 are each designed as a trapezoid and arranged in several concentric circles. In this embodiment, too, the area of a recess 15 is 12 mm ² , and adjacent recesses 15 are separated by walls with a wall thickness of 0.7 mm. In order to achieve a certain degree of filling, individual recesses 15 can be empty, ie they are not provided with bristles. However, all recesses located on the outside of the bristle holder 14 are provided with bristles. Recesses 15 not provided with bristles are therefore located inside the bristle holder 14.

Fig.6 shows a sixth embodiment of a bristle holder 16 for a brush. Square recesses 17 are located on the outer circumference of the bristle holder 16. Two rows of circular recesses 18 are arranged within the square recesses 17. If the brush with the bristle holder 16 is viewed from the side, only the bristles inserted into the square recesses 17 are visible. The bristles inserted into the circular The bundles of bristles inserted into the recesses 18 are covered by them and therefore not visible from the side. The side length of the recesses 17 is 3.46 mm, resulting in an area of 12 mm ² . The recesses 17 are separated by walls whose wall thickness is 0.9 mm. The brush with the bristle holder 16 looks like a "traditional brush" without the bristles grouped together in bundles resembling a broom or a "doll's head".

On the side opposite the free space 20, the bristle holder 19 has recesses 21 into which bristles can be inserted. The bristle holder 19 has a front edge 22 which projects 3 to 4 mm beyond the outer end of the recesses 21, so that the recesses 21 are hidden when viewed from the side. In this embodiment, the extended front edge 22 is formed integrally with the bristle holder 19. Alternatively, designs are also possible in which an extended front edge is formed separately, for example as a sleeve or ring which is attached to the bristle holder. The extended front edge 22 means that the bundles of bristles inserted into the recesses 21 cannot be identified individually. The section of the bristles projecting beyond the front edge 22 appears homogeneous.

Figure 8 shows a brush 23 with the bristle holder 19, to which a handle 24 is attached. Bundles of bristles 25 are inserted or pressed into the bristle holder 22. Due to the extended front edge 22 of the bristle holder 19, the individual bundles are practically invisible; instead, the bristles 25 form a surface that appears at least almost homogeneous.
