Description

    OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
  • The invention, as expressed in the title of the present specification, relates to a universal quick connection kit for installing a faucet on a surface with a through hole, providing, to the function for which it is intended, advantages and features which are described in detail below, representing an improvement to the current state of the art.
  • The object of the present invention relates to a device made up of a set of elements in the form of a universal kit, the purpose of which is to provide a practical, quick and comfortable means for installing faucets which are arranged on a surface with a through hole and which, in addition to the advantage of allowing the installation of said type of faucet in a more accessible way, being attached from above, avoiding the need to hold it at the same time below the surface on which it is installed, has interchangeable tubes that connect the connection of the cold and/or hot water hoses in the main support part of said kit with the water outlet inside the faucet, allowing those that may be of interest for each model of faucet to be placed according to the desired length.
  • FIELD OF APPLICATION OF THE INVENTION
  • The field of application of the present invention falls within the sector of the industry dedicated to the manufacture of plumbing accessories, focusing particularly on the field of connection means and devices for the installing and attaching faucets.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • As is known, the installation of faucets on a surface with a through hole is normally carried out through a screw with a nut that must be tightened in the lower portion of the surface on which it is installed, which, when said surface is already installed, may be a problem and, in any case, an inconvenience due to the difficult access that accessing said nut usually entails.
  • Thus, one objective of the present invention is, therefore, to avoid said need to access from the lower portion, which makes the installation of the faucets difficult, by developing a system which, furthermore, also makes it much easier to change the faucet while maintaining the same connector once the connection device developed in the present invention has been installed.
  • Moreover, although some systems solving this problem through alternative solutions are already known on the market, there is a second drawback which is not solved by any of the known systems. Specifically, these are tubes that connect the fittings for the hoses carrying cold and/or hot water to the tube to the outlet of said cold or hot water through the faucet, which, given that there are multiple models and forms of different faucets have different lengths in order to be correctly housed inside the faucet.
  • Specifically, document ES2600004T3 discloses a faucet designed for greater ease of attachment to a surface with a through hole and not a universal kit for installing any faucet on a surface with a through hole. The faucet disclosed in ES2600004T3 does not solve the problem of the tubes inside the faucet that go from the part which is attached on the surface to the water inlet into the faucet as these tubes are attached and integral with the part, and therefore it is not possible to change the model of faucet with this system. This is the problem that the present invention optimally solves by including interchangeable and preferably flexible tubes. As the tubes of the faucet disclosed in ES2600004T3 are rigid, that is, not flexible, it is not possible to correct a lack of symmetry in the surface where the faucet sits and, therefore, the faucet may not be perpendicular to the surface.
  • Another drawback of the faucet disclosed in ES2600004T3 is that it does not allow the placement of the support part with the two hoses already attached to the support part and forces the user to place a hose below the surface once the support part has been attached on the surface. It is also necessary to dislodge a hose below the surface when the support part is to be replaced.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The universal quick connection kit for installing a faucet on a surface with a through hole proposed by the invention is configured as the ideal solution for the aforementioned objectives, with the characterising details that make it possible and distinguish it being suitably described in the final claims attached to the present description.
  • Specifically, as noted above, the invention proposes a device made up of a set of elements in the form of a universal kit, the purpose of which is to provide a practical, quick and comfortable means for the universal installation of faucets that are arranged on a surface with a through hole.
  • Thus, an essential objective of the present invention is to provide a kit which, in addition to allowing the installation of said type of faucets in an accessible way, virtually being attached only from above, avoiding the need to hold it at the same time and during the entire tightening operation below the surface on which it is installed, is a truly universal system and suitable for being used with any model of faucet that can be coupled to the hole in the surface on which it is installed, regardless of its height or shape.
  • To this end, said universal quick connection kit for installing a faucet on a surface with a through hole essentially comprises, in a known manner, a support part independent of the faucet, which in turn comprises
    • fastening means for fastening the support part to said hole in the surface
    • means for connecting and attaching the cold and/or hot water hoses to the lower portion of the support part
    • means for conducting cold and/or hot water from the upper portion of the support part to the water inlet into the faucet
    • and coupling and attaching means for coupling and attaching the support part to the faucet
  • in such a way that, once the faucet is coupled on the support part, the cold and/or hot water that enters the support through its lower portion from the cold and/or hot water hoses passes through said support and is conducted out through its upper portion, entering the faucet,
and in such a way that both the installation and, where appropriate, the subsequent removal of the faucet, are carried out from the upper portion of the surface once the support part has been fastened to the surface.
  • And based on said configuration, the kit object of the present invention is essentially distinguished in that the aforementioned means for conducting the cold and/or hot water from the upper portion of the support part to its outlet inside the faucet consist of in at least one tube, preferably two tubes, which, advantageously, are interchangeable between different lengths of tube, that is, they can be installed and removed, allowing those of the length that may be of interest for each model of faucet to be placed in such a way that they are adjusted to the distance existing between the base of the faucet, where it is attached to the support part, and the water outlet at the other end of the faucet.
  • Using interchangeable tubes allows the kit object of the present invention to be used in a large number of faucets. To that end, it is enough to select the tubes so that they are of such a length that once attached to the water inlets in the faucet, where the hoses are usually attached, when the faucet is placed with the tubes already attached to the support part, the tubes fit into the holes provided for this purpose in the support part.
  • Furthermore, said tubes are preferably flexible so that they can be adapted to the shape of the faucet and/or their position slightly modified in the event that such position is not ideal with respect to the faucet once the support part is attached.
  • In some cases, the surface is not completely horizontal so once the support part is placed on the surface, it is not completely horizontal either. In these circumstances, as a result of the tubes being flexible, the faucet can be placed on the support part completely horizontally, that is, correcting the lack of horizontality of the surface and the support part.
  • In a preferred embodiment, the tubes are made of plastic. In an even more preferred embodiment, the tubes are made of polyacetal such as DELRIN®.
  • Preferably, the attachment of these tubes to the support part is carried out by means of snap-fit insertion into one or two cavities provided for this purpose in the upper portion of the support part, coinciding with respective threaded holes provided in the lower portion to connect and attach the cold and/or hot water hose connectors.
  • Preferably, these tubes are attached to the faucet by means of threading. To facilitate the threading of the tubes, the inner hole of the tubes has, at least at its lower end, a shape such that an Allen wrench can be fitted.
  • Likewise, preferably, the tubes incorporate O-rings to ensure tightness between them and the support part and between them and the faucet.
  • Therefore, the main advantage of the kit is that it can be used for any model of faucet and, depending on the model, tubes of one or another length can be used, for which there can be provided two, three or more standard lengths of plastic tubes, the manufacturing cost of which is cheaper for the same support part, which is preferably metallic and, therefore, has a higher manufacturing cost.
  • Furthermore, this configuration allows the installation of the faucet to only require placing said support part of the kit and internally connecting the hot and cold water hoses, which are usually screwed into the wall in a lower and more accessible area, but will not necessarily require any nut or any other mechanism to be screwed in at the lower portion of the sink in the lower area of the connection system for connecting to the faucet to attach said part, and in any case, once attached, it will not be necessary to access the lower portion of the surface to place or dismantle and remove the faucet again for repair or replacement, making it easier to update faucets if desired, since the intervention of specialized personnel is not required.
  • To that end, in a preferred embodiment, the fastening means for fastening the support part to the surface are means screwed in through the upper portion, in such a way that the prior placement of said support part can also be carried out comfortably and easily from upper portion.
  • Specifically, said upper screwing means are made up of two through screws which, inserted vertically and in parallel in a guide in the form of an elongated hole in the support part, are arranged with the head in the upper portion, for screwing in from above, such that, before being screwed in, they can be moved laterally between the center and the ends of said guide, to be able to be inserted into the hole in the surface, and at the bottom they incorporate a tab on the thread which protrudes laterally and which, when the screw is tightened, attaches itself at the lower portion of the surface, collaborating in the attachment of the assembly.
  • Preferably, these tabs and/or the portion of the support part that comes into contact with the surface have a rubber cover placed between the metal thereof and the surface where the tightening force is exerted, preventing it from slipping upon contact with the surface.
  • These tabs are arranged symmetrically, so that the one on each screw emerges from a side diametrically opposite to that of the other, to prevent them from moving from their position and rotating with the rotation of the screw, further being associated with respective vertical plates holding them in their relative position and only moving up or down when screwing or unscrewing each fastening screw.
  • And in another alternative embodiment, the fastening means for fastening the support part to the surface are means screwed in through the lower portion, such that the prior placement of said support part is carried out by tightening a nut to a screw emerging from the lower portion of said part to fasten a lower tightening tab.
  • In any case, the support part also comprises additional attaching means that act by means of pressure on the wall of the hole of the generally ceramic surface in which it is incorporated to increase the security of said attachment, which are determined by the existence of a lateral notch which, linked to a set screw, preferably with an Allen head to be flush with the surface of the upper face of the part, when said set screw is screwed in, advances, protruding from the edge of the support part, in such a way that the diameter thereof is widened and, accordingly, adjusted to the diameter of the hole in which it is incorporated, thus being adapted to different diameters of different types of surfaces. As mentioned, this set screw is also accessible from the upper portion of the support part, so its tightening or loosening is also carried out from the upper portion.
  • In turn, as pressure coupling means for attaching the faucet to the support part once attached, two legs have been provided in the upper portion thereof, emerging vertically from opposite points next to the edge of the upper face of the part, the winding configuration of which allows projecting shoulders and a tightening screw provided for this purpose on the inner wall of the base of the faucet to fit into them.
  • And, according to another embodiment, the support part of the kit object of the invention comprises, as fastening means for fastening to the hole in the surface, a disc with lateral machining that fits into an extension of the lower portion of the support part, which disc, having a diameter greater than the hole in the surface, is fastened to the support part through a tightening screw screwed into a hole thereof, in such a way that, after its initial attachment below the surface, it is adjusted to the lower surface of same as said screw is tightened from the upper portion.
  • Furthermore, in this embodiment the coupling means for coupling the support part to the faucet are formed by the actual body of the support part that fits into the base of the faucet, in combination with the cold and/or hot water conduction tubes described at the beginning of this section.

    PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
  • In view of the aforementioned figures, and in accordance with the numbering adopted, several non-limiting exemplary embodiments of the universal quick connection kit for installing faucets on a surface with a through hole of the invention can be seen therein, comprising what is described in detail below.
  • Thus, as observed in said figures, the universal quick connection kit (1) for installing a faucet (100) on a surface with a through hole is of the type essentially comprising a support part (2) independent of the faucet (100), which in turn comprises:
    • fastening means (4, 5, 5') for fastening the support part (2) to said hole in the surface,
    • means for connecting and attaching (3) cold and/or hot water hoses (14) to the lower portion of the support part (2),
    • means (12) for conducting cold and/or hot water through the upper portion of the support part (2) to the water inlet into the faucet (100), and
    • coupling means (6) for coupling the faucet (100) to the support part (2) in its upper portion,
  • in such a way that once the faucet (100) is coupled to the support part (2), the cold and/or hot water entering said part through its lower portion from the cold and/or hot water hoses (14) passes through the support part (2) and exits through its upper portion, entering the faucet (100) in said water conduction means (12), and in such a way that both the installation and, where appropriate, the subsequent removal of the faucet (100), are carried out from the upper portion of the surface once the support part (2) has been fastened to the surface.
  • And based on all this, the universal connection kit (1) according to the present invention is essentially distinguished in that the aforementioned means for conducting cold and/or hot water from the upper portion of the support part (2) to their exit thereof into the faucet (100), as seen in Figures 1 and 2, consist of at least one tube, preferably two tubes (12), which are attached at the top to the water inlet into the faucet (100), preferably by means of a threading, and are inferiorly anchored to the support part (2), which are interchangeable between different lengths of tube, that is, they can be removed from the support part (2) and can be installed and removed to place those of the length that may be of interest according to each model of faucet (100), depending on the distance between the base of the faucet (100), where it is attached to the support part (2), and the water outlet at the other end of the faucet (100).
  • Preferably, these interchangeable tubes (12) are made of a flexible material, preferably plastic and preferably polyacetal, such as DELRIN® material, which is a very hard and resistant thermoplastic material, to be able to be adapted to the shape of the faucet and/or to slightly modify their position if required.
  • Preferably, attaching the tubes (12) to the support part (2) is carried out by means of snap-fit insertion into one or two cavities (3a) provided for this purpose in the upper portion of the support part (2), coinciding with respective threaded holes (3) provided in the lower portion and which, in turn, form the means for connecting and attaching the cold and/or hot water hoses (14) to the lower portion of the support part (2), as seen in Figures 1, 2 and 1A.
  • Likewise, the tubes (12) preferably incorporate O-rings (12a) to ensure tightness between the tubes (12) and the support part (2) and between the tubes (12) and the faucet (100).
  • Figures 1 and 2 depict the tubes (12) inserted into the cavities (3a) with an O-ring (12a), where said cavities include a lower annular stop which, in the embodiment of Figure 1A has been eliminated such that it allows the tubes (12) to be introduced and moved axially to the optimal position along the entire length of the duct, even being able to come into contact with the hoses (14), which adds a further degree of regulation to the invention to be able to be adapted to any installation environment. In this example in Figure 1A, two O-rings (12a) are used, increasing tightness and providing greater security in the installation.
  • Moreover, in a first embodiment, the fastening means (4, 5) for fastening the support part (2) to the hole in the surface are fastening means for fastening by means of screwing in from the upper portion, for which purpose they are formed by respective through fastening screws (4) and respective tightening tabs (5) linked to said screws (4) such that, when screwing them in, the tabs (5), like a self-tapping nut, press the outer lower portion of the hole against the support part (2) which is fitted in said hole on a perimeter stop (2a) thereof, thereby fastening same to the edges of said hole.
  • More specifically, these are two through screws (4), which are inserted vertically and in parallel in a guide (7) in the form of an elongated hole in the support part (2) with the head (4a) at the upper portion such as, before being screwed, can be moved laterally between the center and the ends of said guide (7), as seen in figures 3 and 9, to be able to place them together (figure 9) and, as they take up less space, they can be inserted into the hole in the surface and, once inserted, separate them again (figure 3) to cover more width.
  • And at the bottom, both screws (4) incorporate, on the thread emerging from the lower portion of the support part (2), a tab (5) which protrudes laterally from said part (2) and which, when tightening the screw (4), is attached at the lower portion of the edge of the hole in the surface in which the support part (2) is incorporated.
  • Preferably, these tabs (5) and/or the portion of the support part (2) that comes into contact with the surface have a rubber cover (5a) on same which is placed between them and the surface of the surface, preventing it from slipping.
  • Furthermore, the aforementioned tabs (5), which have a symmetrical configuration as seen in Figures 7 and 8, such that the tab of each screw emerges on a side diametrically opposite to that of the other, are associated with respective vertical plates (8) holding them in their position, preventing them from rotating when screwing or unscrewing the screws (4), and only moving up or down when screwing or unscrewing each fastening screw (4).
  • Furthermore, it can be seen in Figure 8 and Figure 9 how, when the screws (4) are in a closer position, moved towards the center of the guide (7), the tabs (5) do not protrude from the perimeter of the circular support part (2), such that the universal kit (1) can be inserted through the hole in the surface and, once placed, when the screws (4) are positioned at the ends of said guide (7), the tabs (5) do protrude from both sides of same, allowing them to lock onto the edges of the hole at the lower portion of the surface.
  • In turn, taking Figure 13 into account, it can be observed how, in another alternative embodiment of the invention, the fastening means (4, 5) for fastening the support part (2) to the surface are means screwed in from the lower portion, which preferably comprise at least one screw (4) emerging from the lower portion of said part (2) with a tightening nut (4') fastening a tab (5) inserted in said screw (4) and protruding laterally from said part (2), being attached at the lower portion of the edge of the hole in the surface in which the support part (2) is incorporated, and preferably having a rubber cover (5a).
  • Finally, taking Figures 14 to 19 into account, it can be seen how, in another embodiment option of the kit (1), the support part (2) comprises, as fastening means for fastening to the hole in the surface, in addition to a perimeter stop (2a) that allows the adjustment of the part through the upper portion of the hole in the surface, a lower tightening disc (5') with a lateral machined cutout (5'a) that fits into an extension (2b) of the lower portion of the support part (2) and the diameter of which is greater than that of the hole in the surface so as to be adjusted through the lower portion thereof, and a screw (4) which, inserted at the top, passes through the support part (2) and screws into a threaded bore hole (15) in the disc (5'), such that said screwing in, which is carried out from the upper portion through the head (4a) of the screw (4), causes the disc (5') to approach the lower portion of the support part (2) and, accordingly, causes the attachment thereof to the surface. This embodiment depicts a mark (17) on the upper surface of the support part (2) to provide the user with a reference point that allows them to properly orient said part (2) in the installation hole. This reference (17) will be positioned depending on the type of faucet being installed, since faucets do not always have the installation holes or hoses in the same position. In this way, before tightening the part (2), the user has precise information about the appropriate position in which the part (2) must be placed so that the installation is correct, depending on the model of faucet which is being installed.
  • In any case, in any of the described variants of the connection kit (1), the fastening means (4, 5) for fastening the support part (2) to the hole in the surface are independent of the means for connecting and attaching the cold and/or hot water hoses (3) to the lower portion of the support part (2).
  • In any case, preferably in both variants of the kit, the support part (2) further comprises additional attaching means (9, 10) that act by means of pressure on the wall of the hole in the surface in which it is incorporated to increase said attaching and which are also carried out by means of screwing in from above.
  • Preferably, said additional attaching means (9, 10) comprise a lateral notch defining, as seen in Figure 3, a movable portion of the support part (2) the rear portion of which is linked to a set screw (10) the tightening of which causes the pushing of a rear inclined surface (9a) of said notch which, in turn, causes the movement of the movable portion that it forms, causing it to protrude from the rest, widening the diameter of the part (2) and, accordingly, the press fitting thereof against the walls of the hole in the surface in which the support part (2) is incorporated.
  • Preferably, this set screw (10) is an Allen screw and, in any case, is also accessible from the upper portion of the support part (2).
  • Moreover, in a preferred embodiment option, the coupling means (6) for attaching the faucet (100) to the support part (2) once attached to the hole in the surface comprise respective legs (6) emerging vertically from the upper portion of said part (2), at opposite points next to the edge thereof, which have a winding configuration that allows projecting shoulders (11) and a tightening screw (13) provided for that purpose on the inner wall of the base of the faucet (100) to fit into them, as observed in Figure 12.
  • In another embodiment, the coupling means (6) for attaching the faucet (100) to the support part (2) once attached to the hole in the surface, shown in Figures 14 to 19, comprise a tightening screw (13) for the faucet which, when screwed on, tightens a portion of the body of the support part (2). Preferably, in the body of the support part (2) where the tightening screw (13) tightens, a slot (16) has been provided to prevent the faucet from being able to disengage from the support part (2) if the tightening screw (13) is slightly loosened.
  • In a preferred embodiment, the support part (2) comprises a gasket that ensures tightness when the support part (2) is pressed against the surface.
  • Having sufficiently described the nature of the present invention, as well as the ways in which it may be implemented, it is not considered necessary to elaborate on the explanation thereof in order for a person skilled in the art to understand the scope of the invention and the advantages derived therefrom.
