Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an imaging system suitable for use in cooking devices.
- Today cooking devices are used for preparing foodstuffs by means of processes such as heating, cooking, etc. The cooking devices exhibit structural and design differences depending on the need and can be used in a wide field. The oven is one of the most frequently used devices to prepare foodstuffs. The basic oven structure is composed of a body wherein the foodstuffs are placed and a heater. During the cooking process, the body is closed by means of a door so that the heating can be realized with minimum heat transfer to the outer environment. By means of imaging devices capturing the images of the interior of the oven, the user may visually follow the cooking process without opening the door of the cooking device.
- In order to visually and effectively follow the foodstuffs by means of the imaging systems placed into the oven, there must a sufficient and homogeneous illumination in the oven. However, shadows forming due to the change in the illumination in the oven and/or the light sources in the outer environment decrease the effectiveness of the imaging system, making the following of the images difficult.
- In the state of the art European Patent Document No. EP2149755, a cooking device is disclosed, comprising a distance sensor which is used to increase the effectiveness of the following of the cooking process by means of the camera.
- In the state of the art Great Britain Patent Document No. GB2096454, a cooking device is disclosed, comprising a cylindrical illumination element which provides homogeneous illumination between the lowermost and uppermost racks.
- The aim of the present invention is the realization of a cooking device comprising an imaging system for effectively following the cooking process wherein the illumination in the cooking cavity is enabled to be homogeneous.
- The cooking device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a cooking cavity having a cooking surface wherein the foodstuffs to be cooked are placed; a body in the form of a box with the front side open which surrounds the cooking cavity; a control unit which is disposed on the body and which has electronic components enabling the cooking process to be controlled; an imaging system which is arranged on the body and which has a camera enabling the images of the interior of the cooking cavity to be captured; an illumination element which is disposed into the body so as to illuminate the cooking cavity; and a sensor which detects the amount of light delivered onto the cooking surface by the illumination element. By means of the camera positioned so as to capture the images of the cooking cavity, the user can monitor the status of the cooking process by visually checking the foodstuff being cooked without opening the door of the cooking device. The effectiveness of the capturing process carried out by the imagining system is increased by means of the light transmitted by the illumination element into the cooking cavity. The sensor detects the amount of light transmitted onto the cooking surface by the illumination element.
- The cooking device of the present invention comprises the control unit which controls the illumination element according to the data received from the sensor. The control unit compares the data of amount of light detected and transmitted by the sensor with the predetermined amount of light required for the effective operation of the imaging system, thus controlling the operation of the illumination element. Thus, the amount of illumination in the cooking cavity is regulated and the cooking process is enabled to be effectively monitored by the imaging system.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the cooking device comprises a plurality of sensors which are disposed at different positions so as to detect the amount of light transmitted onto the cooking surface by means of a plurality of illumination elements disposed at different positions in the body; a plurality of cooking regions on the cooking surface each corresponding to a sensor; and the control unit which controls the illumination elements according to the data received from the sensors. A non-homogeneous illumination occurs on the cooking surface due to various light sources in the outer environment wherein the cooking device is installed. Therefore, the imaging system cannot effectively monitor the cooking process. However, different illumination elements can transmit different amounts of light onto the cooking surface. A plurality of cooking regions are formed on the cooking surface onto which different illumination elements transmit light. By means of the sensors, the light transmitted by the illumination elements onto different cooking regions is detected. The control unit compares the data of amount of light detected by the sensor with the predetermined amount of light required for the effective operation of the imaging system, thus regulating the amount of light transmitted by the illumination element.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the cooking device comprises the imaging system which is mounted onto a ceiling covering the upper surface of the body. Thus, it becomes easier to capture images of the center of the cooking surface by means of the imaging system.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the cooking device comprises a warning system which visually or audibly warns the user based on the data received from the sensor. The warning system is composed of audio warnings and/or visual warnings such as a display screen or a warning light on the cooking device. The user is informed by means of the warning system if the desired homogeneous illumination cannot be achieved after the amount of light transmitted by the illumination element is regulated by the control unit.
- By means of the present invention, the problem of non-homogeneous illumination occurring on the cooking surface due to various lights sources in the outer environment wherein the cooking device is installed is eliminated.
- The cooking device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
- Figure 1 - is the front perspective view of the cooking device.
- Figure 2 - is the below perspective view of the cooking device.
