Description

  • The present invention refers to a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window.
  • The present invention also refers to a method for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window by means of such a device.
  • In the field of windows and doors and fixtures it is known to use handles that are applied to the profile that forms the side of the mobile panels (leaves) opposite the one at which the hinges for articulating the mobile panel itself are fixed and the rotation of which controls the sliding of one or more vertical shafts also housed in the same profile by means of a suitable moving device.
  • These vertical shafts, in turn, can control or form closure elements of the window or door.
  • The moving device - which, in the jargon, is called "mechanism" ("macchinetta") - supports and contains a rotating element, which is provided with a coupling seat for coupling in rotation with the pin of the handle (a pin that, in the jargon, is indicated as "square spindle" or "square pin" given its right quadrangular cross section), and a mechanism that makes it possible to transform the rotary motion of such a rotating element into translation movement of one or two sliders in turn able to be coupled with a respective said vertical shaft.
  • Known moving devices ("mechanisms") are encased in hollow seats formed in the profile that forms a side of the leaf; this imposes limitations of the overall bulk of such moving devices.
  • According to the prior art, handles which can be coupled with such moving devices comprise an attachment washer or base on which the main body forming the lever, the knob or the control handle in which the square pin is engaged is mounted in a rotary manner.
  • The attachment washer or base is fixed to the profile through screws that engage in corresponding threaded holes formed in the box of the moving device ("mechanism") or in a contrast body. For this purpose, the attachment washer or base is crossed by a plurality of holes that lie over corresponding holes formed in the profile itself for the passage through them of the screws for fixing to the box of the moving device or to the contrast body.
  • The attachment washer or base, moreover, contains reference members of the different angular positions that the handle takes up in use (open, closed and/or overturned).
  • Such attachment washers or bases are an additional component of the control handles that increase the production costs thereof and that require long and laborious operations both for assembly to the remaining components forming the respective handle and for mounting on the profile coupled with the moving device.
  • The purpose of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art.
  • Within this general purpose, a purpose of the present invention is to provide a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window that makes it possible to also mount handles without attachment washers or bases on a leaf of a door or window, ensuring the correct coupling with the respective moving device.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window that makes it possible to securely mount a handle on a profile forming a side of a leaf of a door or window whatever the material from which such a profile is made and independently from the thicknesses of the walls of such a profile.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window that makes it possible to simplify the operations both of assembling and of mounting the relative control handle.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window that makes it possible to ensure stable and secure mounting of the handle and precise and secure positioning of the handle itself in its different use positions.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window that is structurally simple, of reduced overall bulk and applicable on profiles even of small section.
  • These purposes according to the present invention are achieved by providing a device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window as outlined in claim 1.
  • These purposes according to the present invention are achieved by providing a method for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window as outlined in claim 13.
  • Further characteristics are provided in the dependent claims.
  • The characteristics and advantages of a device and of a method for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window according to the present invention will become clearer from the following description, given by way of non-limiting example, referring to the attached schematic drawings, in which:

    • figures 13a to 13d are schematic views that show the mounting steps of a handle at a profile forming a side of a leaf of a door or window in which a moving device of manoeuvring or closure members is encased by means of a device like that of figure 8.
  • With reference to the attached figures, a device 10 for mounting a handle 100 on a leaf of a door or window is shown.
  • It should be specified that in the present description adjectives such as "first" and "second" are used only for greater clarity and should not be understood in a limiting sense.
  • Adjectives such as "front" and "rear", "vertical" and "horizontal", on the other hand, refer to the usual use conditions of a device 10.
  • The device 10 can be used, in particular, for mounting a handle 100 on a profile 200 defining a side of a leaf of a door or window.
  • The device 10 can be used, in particular, for mounting a handle 100 of the type comprising a main body 101 and a pin 102 having polygonal cross section.
  • The main body 101 in turn comprises a first portion that defines a handgrip, for example a handle or knob, and a second portion that defines a neck in which an axial end segment of the pin 102 can be engaged.
  • The pin 102 has, in general, a right quadrangular cross section, in particular square and, for this reason, it is also known in the field as "square pin".
  • The engagement between the pin 102 and the main body 101 is made by means of couplings and/or connection members configured to obtain a rigid, complete (i.e. such as to eliminate any possibility of relative movement both by translation, and by rotation between the pin 102 and the main body 101) and removable connection of the first in the second. Such couplings and/or connection members are of the type known by those skilled in the art and, for this reason, are not described in detail.
  • It should also be specified that the attached figures (figure 6) show a possible embodiment of the connection members of the pin 102 to the main body 101, wholly indicated with reference numeral 103, of the type of the one described in patent application WO2012/045702A1 , the description of which is referred to here; such an embodiment, however, is not limiting for the purposes of the present invention, the connection members between the pin 102 and the main body 101 could be different from those shown in the attached figures. Purely as an example, the pin 102 could be inserted in a hollow seat formed in the main body 101 and having a cross section matching that of the pin itself so as to make a prismatic coupling with it, whereas the relative axial sliding between the pin 102 and the main body 101 could be prevented through the use of at least one threaded dowel that screws into a radial threaded through hole formed in the neck of the main body 101.
  • As known, moreover, the axial end segment of the pin 102 opposite the one that engages with the handle 100 can in turn be engaged in a moving device 300 for moving opening and closing members of the door or window.
  • The moving device 300 is of the per se known type by those skilled in the art and for this reason it is not described in detail and is only partially illustrated in the attached figures.
  • In general terms and for what is relevant here, the moving device 300 is generally housed in a recess 201 of the leaf or of the profile 200 that forms the leaf and is provided with a rotating element 301 in which the pin 102 engages.
  • The rotating element 301 is set in rotation by the pin 102; the rotating element 301 is connected to the manoeuvring and closure members of the door or window (not shown) by means of a mechanism adapted for transforming the rotary motion of the first into a sliding motion of the second.
  • For the sake of clarity of description, the axial segment of the pin 102 that engages with the moving device 300 is indicated as "first axial segment" 102a, whereas the axial segment of the pin 102 that engages with the main body 101 is indicated as "second axial segment" 102b.
  • Between the first axial segment 102a and the second axial segment 102b of the pin 102 an intermediate axial segment 102c is defined that, as detailed hereinafter, engages with the device 10.
  • Finally, the shape of the profile 200 that defines a side of the leaf - the side on which the handle 100 is mounted by means of the device 10 - could be different from that shown in the attached figures.
  • In general terms, as far as what is relevant here is concerned, the profile 200 comprises a wall 202 that is substantially coplanar or parallel to the plane of the leaf and on which the handle 100 must be mounted. A slot 203 is formed in the wall 202 at the recess 201 in which the moving device 300 is housed; the shape, size and position of the slot 203 are such as to allow access at least to the rotating element 301.
  • As known to those skilled in the art, the rotation axis of the rotating element 301 is substantially orthogonal to the wall 202 and generally horizontal.
  • Having said all the above, the device 10 comprises:
    • a base body 11 that is provided with connection members 12 for the rigid, complete and removable connection of the base body 11 to a leaf of a door or window, i.e. to the profile 200,
    • a bush 13 that is supported by the base body 11 in a rotary manner around a rotation axis R coinciding with the longitudinal axis of the bush 13, wherein the bush 13 is crossed by a through hole 130 that is coaxial to the rotation axis R and that, along at least one axial segment thereof, has a polygonal cross section substantially matching that of the pin 102,
    • first axial locking members 14 for locking the relative sliding of the base body 11 and of the bush 13 along the rotation axis R, and
    • snap-stop means 15 for removably stopping the bush 13 in at least two different angular positions and that are arranged between the base body 11 and the bush 13.
  • The base body 11 with the relative connection members 12, the bush 13 and the snap-stop means 15 are assembled in a "pack" to form a single assembly constituting the device 10, the relative axial withdrawal of the base body 11, of the bush 13 and of the snap-stop means 15 arranged between them being prevented by the first axial locking members 14.
  • The device 10 also comprises second axial locking members 16 for locking the relative axial sliding of the bush 13 and of the pin 102 when inserted in it.
  • In greater detail, the base body 11 has a first face 11a, which constitutes a resting face on the wall 202, and a second face 11b, which is opposite the first one.
  • A shaped protuberance 17 copying the shape of the slot 203 and able to be inserted in the latter can project from the first face 11a.
  • As can be seen from the attached figures, the shaped protuberance 17 has one or more radial projections 17' that are adapted for inserting in corresponding radial notches 203' of the slot 203 so as to prevent the relative rotation of the base body 11 (and with it of the entire device 10) with respect to the wall 202. With reference to the embodiment shown in the attached figures 1 to 7a, the shaped protuberance 17 consists of a framework of circular shape that projects from the first face 11a and that has a plurality of radial projections 17' of lobed shape; the shape of the slot 203 being analogous.
  • The base body 11 is crossed by a through hole 18 that extends between the first face 11a thereof and the second face 11b thereof and in which the bush 13 is rotatably supported with interposition of an anti-friction element of the type of a flanged bush or washer 19 made of anti-friction material.
  • The device 10 comprises a covering element 20 of the base body 11, i.e. of the second face 11b of the base body 11 and of the thickness thereof that, in mounting configuration, projects from the wall 202.
  • The covering element 20 is crossed by a through hole 21 that surrounds the bush 13 and can be removably coupled on the base body 11 for example with an interlocking, snap or shape coupling.
  • The shape and size of the base body 11 and/or of the covering element 20 can change depending on the requirements of the case; in a preferred embodiment, the dimensions in the plane (width and length, i.e. diameter) of the base body 11 and/or of the covering element 20 are selected so as to substantially correspond with the plane dimensions (width and length, i.e. diameter) of the neck of the handle 100, as for example shown in figures 1 to 7a-7f, or in any case such as to cover the slot 203, as for example shown in figures 8 to 13a-13d.
  • The connection members 12 can be of the obstacle and/or friction type.
  • In the first embodiment shown in the attached figures, the connection members 12 comprise at least one pair of clamping plates 22 that are supported by the base body 11 by means of respective screws 23 inserted in corresponding through holes 24 formed in the base body 11. The clamping plates 22 are guided in corresponding seats 25 that are formed in the base body 11 and that are shaped so as to prevent the rotation of the clamping plates 22 together with the screws 23.
  • The seats 25 are defined by a tongue 25a (figure 3) or by a pair of tongues 25a, 25b (figure 6A) that project from the first face 11a in a direction substantially orthogonal to it, respectively at one flank or at both opposite flanks of each clamping plate 22, so as to prevent the rotation of the clamping plates 22 in one or both directions of rotation with respect to the axis of the respective screw 23, except for clearances and construction and mounting tolerances.
  • The screws 23, and with them the respective plates 22, are liable to make an oscillating movement on a plane orthogonal to the first face 11a and that contains the axis of the screw 23 and the rotation axis R. Such an oscillating movement is due to the clearances and to the construction and mounting tolerances and can be useful in the mounting step of the device 10 on the profile 200.
  • As described hereinafter, the clamping plates 22 can be inserted in the slot 203 below the wall 202 and, by means of the screws 23, are brought towards the base body 11 so as to clamp the wall 202 between them and the base body 11.
  • The insertion of the clamping plates 22 in the slot 203 takes place without the clamping plates 22 being rotated together with the screws 23, such a rotation moreover being obstructed or prevented in one or both directions of rotation.
  • This first embodiment is particularly suitable for mounting a handle 100 on a profile 200 of a new leaf, in which to thus form the slot 203 for the first time in the desired shapes and sizes.
  • Advantageously, the clamping plates 22 are provided with clamping teeth 26 adapted for engaging with the wall 202.
  • In the second embodiment shown in the attached figures, the connection members 12 are of the threaded type and comprise at least one pair of screws 28 able to engage in corresponding threaded holes formed in the body of the moving device 300 or in a contrast body housed in the leaf (profile 200) below the wall 202.
  • The screws 28 can be inserted through corresponding through holes 204 formed in the wall 202.
  • This second embodiment is suitable, in particular, in the case in which an existing handle must be replaced and, therefore, the existing slot 203 and through holes 204 must be used.
  • The bush 13 comprises in succession along its axial extension:
    • a first end segment 13a at which the first axial locking members 14 are arranged,
    • an intermediate segment 13c, along which the axial segment of the through hole 130 that has polygonal cross section substantially matching that of the pin 102 (in the depicted case square) extends at least in part, and
    • a second end segment 13b, at which the second axial locking members 16 are arranged.
  • Advantageously, the through hole 130 has polygonal cross section substantially matching that of the pin 102 along the entire axial extension of the bush 13, extending along the first end segment 13a, the intermediate segment 13c and the second end segment 13b.
  • The first end segment 13a projects for at least one segment beyond the first face 11a of the base body 11.
  • Such a first end segment 13a is interrupted by longitudinal notches 131 that define respective tongues having a certain degree of elasticity.
  • On the outer lateral surface of such a first end segment 13a an annular throat 132 is formed that receives a stop ring 29 of the elastic type (Seeger) that helps to form the first axial locking members 14.
  • As detailed hereinafter, the stop ring 29 cooperates with a shoulder 30 of the bush 13 against which the base body 11 rests, directly or indirectly.
  • The first axial locking members 14 are of the obstacle type. However, this does not rule out alternative embodiments of the first axial locking members 14.
  • The intermediate segment 13c is received in the bush or washer 19.
  • The second end segment 13b projects from the second face 11b of the base body 11; the cross section of said second end segment 13b is greater than the cross section of the intermediate segment 13c and of the first end segment 13a so as to form the shoulder 30 that helps to form the first axial locking members 14 to prevent the axial withdrawal of the various elements that form the device 10.
  • Between the shoulder 30 and the base body 11 the flange 190 of the possible flanged bush or washer 19 is arranged.
  • The second axial locking members 16 comprise at least one dowel 31 (headless screw with conical tip) engaged in a radial threaded through hole 32 formed in the bush 13 and, in particular, in the second end segment 13b thereof so as to be able to be accessible from the outside during the mounting steps.
  • However, this does not rule out alternative embodiments of the second axial locking members 16.
  • The snap-stop means 15 make it possible to removably stop the bush 13, and with it the pin 102 and thus the main body 101 of the handle 100, in different possible positions that the handle 100 can take up in use: open, closed and/or overturned.
  • The snap-stop means 15 comprise:
    • a plurality of notches 33, which are formed on the outer lateral surface of the bush 13 (at its first end segment 13a) or in a collar 34 fitted onto the bush 13 (at its first end segment 13a) and that are distributed along a circumference concentric to the rotation axis R, and
    • at least one pair of projections 35, which cooperate with the notches 33 and which are housed in the base body 11 in a mobile manner between an engagement position with the notches 33, so as to stop the rotation of the bush 13 and with it of the pin 102, and a disengagement position with the notches 33, so as to allow the rotation of the bush 13 and with it of the pin 102, in contrast to elastic thrusting means 36.
  • The notches 33 are distributed at an angular distance apart (90°) corresponding to the different positions that the handle 100 can take up in use: open, closed and/or overturned.
  • In the embodiment shown in the attached figures, the notches 33 consist of nicks formed along the perimeter edge of a collar 34 that is fitted (for example by interference) on the first end segment 13a of the bush 13 and that is arranged between the base body 11 and the stop ring 29.
  • The projections 35 consist of balls that are pushed against the collar 34 by elastic thrusting means 36 consisting of springs arranged between each ball and the base body 11.
  • The balls are in rolling contact along a circular crown of the collar 34 and, pushed by the elastic thrusting means 36, engage with the notches 33, locking the collar 34, and with it the bush 13, in the relative angular position.
  • This does not rule out alternative embodiments of the snap-stop means 15: thus for example the notches 33 could be formed on the bush 13, the elastic thrusting means could act in the radial direction and could have a different configuration from the one depicted.
  • The operation of the device 10 according to the present invention can be immediately understood by those skilled in the art in light of the description given above and the attached figures.
  • As already stated above, the various elements that form the device 10 are assembled so as to form a single assembly that, as such, is provided as an accessory for windows and doors for mounting handles 100.
  • In assembled configuration, the device 10 (without the respective covering element 20) is as shown in figures 2 to 5 and 8 to 12, in which the pin 102 is also shown that, in itself, is not part of the device 10.
  • Figures 7a to 7f schematically show the mounting steps of a handle 100 on the profile 200 of a leaf by means of a device 10 according to the first embodiment shown in figures 1 to 6, 6A.
  • The leaf, or rather the profile 200 that forms a side of the leaf, has a recess 201, in which a moving device 300 of the type described above is housed, and a wall 202 in which, at the recess 201, a slot 203 is formed; the rotating element 301 of the moving device 300 is accessible through the slot 203.
  • Advantageously, the slot 203 can be of a shape and size substantially corresponding to those of the shaped protuberance 17 that projects from the first face 11a of the base body 11.
  • The device 10 is arranged, by itself (i.e. without handle 100) on the outer surface of the wall 202 at the slot 203 so that the rotation axis R is substantially orthogonal to the wall 202 and coaxial to the axis of the rotating element 301.
  • The first face 11a of the base body 11 rests on the wall 202.
  • The device 10 thus arranged is then fixed to the wall 202 by means of the connection members 12.
  • In this case, the clamping plates 22 are inserted below the wall 202 and, by means of the respective screws 23, are brought towards the base body 11 so as to clamp the wall 202 against it.
  • After having fixed the device 10 to the wall 202, only the pin 102 is inserted in the through hole 130 of the bush 13.
  • The pin 102 is inserted in the through hole 130 so that its first axial end segment 102a penetrates in the recess 201 and engages for at least one segment in the rotating element 301.
  • The second axial end segment 102b of the pin 102 projects from the device 10 on the opposite side with respect to the wall 202.
  • The intermediate axial segment 102c of the pin 102 makes a prismatic coupling with a corresponding portion of the through hole 130 of the bush 13.
  • The pin 102 thus rotates as a unit with the bush 13.
  • After having adjusted the axial position of the pin 102 with respect to the wall 202 and to the moving device 300, the axial position of the pin 102 with respect to the device 10 (with respect to the bush 13) is fixed by means of the second axial locking members 16.
  • In the case depicted, the dowel 31 is screwed in the hole 32 until it interferes with the pin 102.
  • Before or after the pin 102 is mounted it is possible to apply the covering element 20 on the base body 11.
  • After having mounted the pin 102, the main body 101 of the handle 100 is mounted on it, or rather on the second axial end segment 102b thereof.
  • The mounting takes place by means of couplings and/or connection members configured to make a rigid, complete and removable connection between the pin 102 and the main body 101 and of the per se known type.
  • The second embodiment shown in figures 8 to 13a-13d differs from the first solely for the connection members 12 that, in this case, comprise screws 28.
  • The mounting takes place in a totally similar way to that described above with reference to the first embodiment, with the difference that in this case the wall 202 also has holes 204 able to be crossed by the screws 28, which engage in corresponding holes formed in the body of the moving device 300.
  • The device 10 is fixed to the wall 202 by screwing the screws 28 in the respective holes.
  • Otherwise the mounting steps, as can be clearly seen from the attached figures, are totally analogous to those described above.
  • The device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window according to the present invention has the advantage of allowing a handle to be mounted at a door or window leaf irrespective of the type of moving device that the leaf is equipped with and/or the type of profile that forms the side of the leaf, be it made of aluminium, plastics or even wood and of even small thicknesses.
  • The device according to the present invention makes it possible to mount handles of the type without its own base, ensuring stable and secure mounting thereof.
  • The device according to the present invention makes it possible to mount handles of the type without its own base, ensuring the positioning thereof in the different use positions (open, closed and/or folded away). The device according to the present invention, indeed, incorporates inside it removable stop means of the bush and, therefore, with it of the handle pin in the different angular positions corresponding to the different use positions.
  • The device according to the present invention makes it possible to mount handles of the type without its own base with a limited number of operations able to be carried out in a quick and simple manner.
  • The device for mounting a handle to a leaf of a door or window, thus conceived, can undergo numerous modifications and variants, all within the scope of the invention; moreover, all of the details can be replaced by technically equivalent elements. In practice, the materials used, as well as the dimensions, can be whatever according to the technical requirements.
