- Our approach allowed a complete overview of the acylcamitines that are involved in the mitochondrial mode of transport of fatty acids. An incomplete oxidation of fatty acids, leading to a reflux from mitochondria toward the blood of the smaller acylcamitines may be at the origin of the increased acylcarnitine levels.
- the decreased concentration of the two-long chain acylcamitines that we observed is more likely to be involved in the senescence-like phenotype.
- Phosphatidylcholines are major phospholipids of cellular membranes. The accumulation of the four phosphatidylcholines found in our metabolomic signature has never before been reported in the blood of individuals with POAG.
