Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a household appliance with enhanced safety.
- Household appliances such as laundry washing machines/dryers, have energizing circuits comprising various circuit components such as capacitors, printed circuit-boards, cables and sockets enabling cable connections. Circuit components with risk of ignition are usually placed in a housing in order to protect them from external environment conditions and to provide safety of the household appliance and its environment in case of a malfunction. However, capacitors require significant safety measures as they bear the risk of burning and exploding under high voltage, extreme temperature and resonance conditions. Therefore, placement of capacitors in a housing so as not to be affected by the remaining components is critical in terms of safety. Likewise, malfunctions in capacitors may easily affect the other components disposed nearby, leading to failure and ignition of a plurality of circuit components. In addition, the circuit components may cause safety vulnerabilities by contacting each other due to incorrect placement or insecure fastening of circuit components in a housing, or the impacts and vibrations a household appliance is subjected to during transportation.
- State of the art European patent application no. EP3004760 describes a household appliance having a seat in which electronic components are housed.
- The aim of the present invention is to realize a household appliance in which electrical components are safely housed.
- The household appliance realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims, comprises an energizing circuit comprising at least one capacitor in addition to other circuit components such as processor, printed circuit board (PCB) or electricity transmission cables, and a housing in which is placed a plurality of circuit components of the energizing circuit including the capacitor. A shield is provided in the housing, acting as a barrier between the capacitor and the other circuit components, and the capacitor is placed behind the shield. The shield at least partially surrounds the capacitor, enabling physically isolating the capacitor from the other circuit components disposed in the housing. This enables minimizing the interaction between the capacitor and the other circuit components positioned in the housing, preventing other circuit components from being damaged in case of a failure of the capacitor which tend to malfunction more often, and inhibiting the capacitor from being affected from likely malfunctions of the other components. The safety of the household appliance is thus effectively enhanced.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the capacitor is fastened on the shield so as to be placed in a seat provided on the shield. Thus, the capacitor is fitted in the seat so as to be borne and supported by the shield disposed on the housing. The capacitor is thus enabled to be correctly and conveniently positioned at all times, achieving ease of assembly. This also enables eliminating the safety problems likely to occur due to the capacitor not being concealed by the shield as a result of its incorrect placement.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the shield is hinged on the housing wall so as to be pivotable about a rotational axis. The shield can be moved by being pivoted between the position in which the capacitor is disposed between it and the housing and the position in which it allows access to the capacitor. By this, the capacitor is enclosed in the designated volume between the shield and the housing upon pivoting of the shield, enabling assembly to be performed quickly and easily.
- In an embodiment of the invention, coupling means are provided on the shield and the housing, enabling snap-fit attachment of the shield to the housing. The coupling means preferably comprise at least one detent and a recess into which the detent engages. The shield is thus enabled to be easily and securely fastened on the housing.
- In another embodiment of the invention, projections are provided on the shield, enabling maintaining the distance between the circuit components and the capacitor by abutting against the other circuit components in the housing. The projections enable keeping the safe distance between the capacitor and the adjacent circuit components at all times. The capacitor is thus prevented from contacting adjacent circuit components due to assembly errors or displacement of the circuit components.
- In another embodiment of the invention, the housing comprises a body in which at least one circuit component is placed and a cover covering the body, and the shield is mounted on the cover. This embodiment is advantageous in that it enables easy access to the capacitor by means of removing the cover from the body.
- The invention enables isolating the capacitor from the inner volume of the housing by being concealed by the shield, effectively reducing capacitor induced damages.
- The household appliance realized to achieve the aims of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
- Figure 1 is a schematic view of the household appliance of an embodiment of the invention.
